Prince William County Fire and Rescue System (FRS) employees are dedicated to protecting lives and serving our community. We train individuals to provide emergency medical services, fight fires, perform rescues and promote fire safety and prevention. PWC FRS is a growing organization of over 800 uniformed and civilian employees that offers tremendous learning and promotion opportunities. We are dedicated to the growth and development of a customer service-driven, diverse workforce to meet the needs of our citizens. The FRS has a deployment model that includes Paramedic Engines, 24‑hour shifts and a 56‑hour work week. Work station and duty assignment will be determined by the county.
Base salary is $62,187.36 per year. This is a unique employment opportunity to earn full pay and benefits from day one of your training.
Applicants may receive a one‑time education bonus, as a percentage of the entry‑level salary for the offered position, payable after successful completion of the probationary period, as calculated below.
Applicants may receive a one‑time military experience bonus, as a percentage of the entry‑level salary for the offered position. This military bonus is for current reservists, or for those that were honorably or medically discharged. This is payable after successful completion of the probationary period, as calculated below.
All bonuses are subject to taxes. Bonus eligibility to be determined; subject to certificate verification.
The hiring process entails various steps mentioned below. This selection process is for projected FY27/28 positions.
Background checks, which may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Check, Credit History Check, Education Verification Check, License Verification Check, and/or fingerprinting may be required as posted in the job advertisement.
Fire & Rescue Requirement: Effective October 2012, mandated by the Virginia State Board of Health 12VAC5‑31‑540, VA EMS Regulations require a criminal background check conducted by the Central Crime Records Exchange and the National Crime Information Center via Virginia State Police, and a driving record transcript from the individual’s state Department of Motor Vehicles.
