Overview
The Fire Alarm Technician 2 provides high-quality customer support through on-site service, complex troubleshooting, programming, installation, and maintenance of various FA Systems with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Plan and perform testing and inspection of large fire alarm systems per NFPA and local code standards, noting deficiencies.
- Conduct site surveys for potential PM inspections and FA system modifications; prepare quotations accordingly.
- Program and service fire alarm systems of various models.
- Troubleshoot FA systems including Notifier, Siemens, Edwards, Gamewell, Honeywell, Firelite, etc.
- Perform upgrades and installations of mid-size FA systems based on drawings and submittals.
- Conduct pre-testing and final inspections for projects.
- Perform PITCO activities.
- Complete documentation such as ROC and Test Forms.
- Respond to after-hours service calls as scheduled.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
- Research installation and manufacturer manuals to determine materials and procedures.
- Provide training to apprentices and team members.
Qualifications
- HS Diploma/GED with 5 years relevant experience or 2-year technology degree with 3 years relevant experience.
- Ability to work overtime as directed.
- Willingness to work on M.C. Dean, Inc. projects nationwide.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Reliable attendance, teamwork skills, and commitment to safety.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills, including research using manuals and online resources.
- Knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, OSHA, and industry standards for fire alarm systems.
Certifications
- NICET Level II in Inspection and Testing of FA Systems, or
- NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level III, or
- Pass NICET exam within 90 days of employment.
Abilities
- Lift at least 100 pounds and 60 pounds for extended periods.
- Relocate a 12-foot stepladder unaided.
- Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
- Perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching routinely.
- Good vision (corrected if necessary), color perception, hearing, and communication skills.
- Use standard ladders and tools safely.
- Recognize problems or potential issues.
- Apply rules to solve specific problems and draw conclusions.
- Observe details at close range.
- Understand spoken information effectively.
