Job description

Overview

The Fire Alarm Technician 2 provides high-quality customer support through on-site service, complex troubleshooting, programming, installation, and maintenance of various FA Systems with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and perform testing and inspection of large fire alarm systems per NFPA and local code standards, noting deficiencies.
  2. Conduct site surveys for potential PM inspections and FA system modifications; prepare quotations accordingly.
  3. Program and service fire alarm systems of various models.
  4. Troubleshoot FA systems including Notifier, Siemens, Edwards, Gamewell, Honeywell, Firelite, etc.
  5. Perform upgrades and installations of mid-size FA systems based on drawings and submittals.
  6. Conduct pre-testing and final inspections for projects.
  7. Perform PITCO activities.
  8. Complete documentation such as ROC and Test Forms.
  9. Respond to after-hours service calls as scheduled.
  10. Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
  11. Research installation and manufacturer manuals to determine materials and procedures.
  12. Provide training to apprentices and team members.

Qualifications

  1. HS Diploma/GED with 5 years relevant experience or 2-year technology degree with 3 years relevant experience.
  2. Ability to work overtime as directed.
  3. Willingness to work on M.C. Dean, Inc. projects nationwide.
  4. Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
  5. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  6. Reliable attendance, teamwork skills, and commitment to safety.
  7. Advanced troubleshooting skills, including research using manuals and online resources.
  8. Knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, OSHA, and industry standards for fire alarm systems.

Certifications

  1. NICET Level II in Inspection and Testing of FA Systems, or
  2. NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level III, or
  3. Pass NICET exam within 90 days of employment.

Abilities

  1. Lift at least 100 pounds and 60 pounds for extended periods.
  2. Relocate a 12-foot stepladder unaided.
  3. Work at heights up to 60 feet, climbing and maintaining balance on scaffolds, lifts, and ladders.
  4. Perform physical activities such as walking, climbing, lifting, and reaching routinely.
  5. Good vision (corrected if necessary), color perception, hearing, and communication skills.
  6. Use standard ladders and tools safely.
  7. Recognize problems or potential issues.
  8. Apply rules to solve specific problems and draw conclusions.
  9. Observe details at close range.
  10. Understand spoken information effectively.
