Job summary

Chesapeake Fire Protection, headquartered in Odenton, MD, is seeking an experienced Fire Alarm Designer to create code-compliant drawings for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. You will collaborate with PMs, estimators, engineers, and field teams to deliver accurate layouts, riser diagrams, and device calculations.

Ideal candidates have 2-5 years of fire alarm design experience, strong NFPA knowledge, and proficiency in AutoCAD or Revit.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, or related field, or equivalent industry experience; 2-5 years of fire alarm design experience.
• Strong working knowledge of NFPA codes and local fire alarm requirements.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit (preferred).
• Familiarity with major fire alarm manufacturers and systems.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
• NICET preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), IBC, IFC, and local AHJ requirements.
• Prepare detailed fire alarm drawings, layouts, riser diagrams, and device calculations.
• Review architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings for proper system coordination.
• Coordinate designs with project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
• Prepare submittal packages, including product data, battery calculations, and sequence of operations.
• Respond to plan review comments and revise drawings as required.
• Support permitting and AHJ approval processes.
• Assist with design-build and value engineering solutions when applicable.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, or related field
