Job summary

The Getty Center in Los Angeles is seeking a Fire Alarm System Technician to maintain, test, repair, and install fire alarm systems and components, including detection and pre‑action systems, in compliance with local building codes.

The role collaborates with Getty Engineering, Security, contractors, and inspectors, requires 5+ years of experience, NICET or equivalent certification, and a California driver's license.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • California driver's license with fewer than three DMV points.
  • Associate's degree in electronic technology or related field strongly preferred, or training as journey level low‑voltage electrician
  • NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems strongly preferred
  • 5+ years' experience installing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national fire safety codes and regulations
  • Training in electronics and computer networks

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on fire alarm systems and components
  • Respond to emergency service calls during regular business hours and off-hours
  • Coordinate with Getty Engineering, Security, contractors, and inspectors for LAFD inspections
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system faults, wiring issues, and component failures
  • Ensure compliance with fire codes and safety regulations
  • Inspect completed work for compliance with building and safety codes
  • Stay updated with industry advancements and regulatory changes
  • Maintain service records, reports, and documentation
  • Collaborate with technicians, electricians, and safety inspectors
  • Upgrade fire alarm systems to meet new standards

Fire Alarm System Technician

Job Summary

Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and installs fire alarm systems and components, including detection systems and pre‑action systems. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Inspects completed work for conformance with requirements of local building codes.

Major Job Responsibilities
  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and preventive maintenance on fire alarm systems and components
  • Respond to emergency service calls during regular business hours and off‑hours
  • Works with Getty Engineering, Security, contractors, and inspectors for required LAFD Regulation 4 inspections
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system faults, wiring issues, and component failures
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and national fire codes and safety regulations
  • Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with local building and safety codes
  • Stay updated with industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes
  • Maintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation
  • Collaborate with other technicians, electricians, and safety inspectors
  • Upgrade fire alarm systems to meet new technological and safety standards
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • California driver's license with less than three DMV points
  • Associate's degree in electronic technology or a related field strongly preferred, or training as a journey level low‑voltage electrician
  • NICET Certification in Fire Alarm Systems or equivalent strongly preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national fire safety codes and regulations
  • Training in electronics and computer networks
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret fire alarm drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Proficient computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software and email applications
  • Ability to use a computerized work order tracking system and track materials used
  • Familiarity with various fire alarm system manufacturers, such as Simplex and Edwards
  • Knowledge of smoke control systems and interface with building management systems (BMS)
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards a plus (including 70 and 72)
  • Ability to work on ladders and lifts
  • Ability to stoop, stand for periods of time, work in tight spaces, and lift 50 lbs.
  • Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Notifier, Simplex) a plus
  • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of fire alarm system programming
  • Knowledge of pre‑action fire sprinkler systems
