Job summary

Shambaugh & Son is seeking a Fire Alarm & Special Hazards Estimator to prepare competitive estimates and support the delivery of complex fire protection projects in Indiana. This role covers fire alarm, gas suppression, and special hazard systems, developing project scopes, bid packages, and cost estimates with customers and project teams.

Candidates should have strong technical and organizational skills, experience reviewing drawings, and the ability to manage multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Engineering/Technology degree or equivalent work experience.
• Fire protection industry experience preferred (1+ year).
• Experience with project estimating and bid packages preferred.
• Proficiency in Excel/Word and AutoCAD is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with current and future clients through marketing and strategies.
• Prepare detailed scope of work and preliminary bid drawings from customer information.
• Perform site surveys with pictures and accurate dimensions.
• Develop high-level design calculations of systems estimated.
• Conduct project take-offs in estimating program.
• Some project management responsibilities (tracking progress, change orders).
• Review engineered drawings for accuracy with the project estimate.
• Develop detailed scope letters for each bid.
• Perform contract review and checklist for each project sold.
• Monitor project costs and communicate issues to stakeholders.
• Coordinate communication with customers throughout the project.

Job Summary

Shambaugh & Son is seeking a Fire Alarm & Special Hazards Estimator to prepare competitive estimates and support the delivery of complex fire protection projects. This position works with fire alarm, gas suppression, and special hazard systems, developing project scopes, bid packages, and cost estimates while collaborating with customers and project teams. Candidates should have strong technical and organizational skills, experience reviewing construction drawings and specifications, and the ability to manage multiple projects. A background in fire protection, engineering technology, construction management, or project estimating is preferred.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with both our current and future client base through marketing and other key strategies.
• Develop detailed and accurate scope of work and preliminary bid drawings based upon information received from customer.
• Perform detailed and informative site surveying of their bid projects with pictures and accurate dimensions.
• Develop high-level design calculations of systems estimated.
• Project take-offs in estimating program.
• Some project management responsibilities. (Track project progress, change order maintenance, etc.).
• Review all engineered drawings for accuracy with the project estimate.
• Develop detailed scope letters custom to each individual project bid.
• Perform contract review and checklist for each project sold.
• Continuously find new and creative ways of marketing their key customer base.
• Continuously monitor all project job cost reports and make sure they are staying on top of any visible issues.
• Follow up communication with customers during the entire duration of each project.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Degree in technical or business discipline preferred or equivalent work experience. Examples include Engineering, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering/Technology, and Construction Management degrees.
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in Fire Protection industry preferred.
• Minimum of 1 years’ experience in project estimating preferred.
• Good computer skills (Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word).
• High electrical interest.
• AutoCad experience preferred.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
• Excellent communicator in both written and verbal form.
• Self-motivated individual with great organizational skills.
