Job summary

Fortis Fire & Safety is seeking a motivated Fire Alarm Construction Apprentice to join our team. You will assist in installation, assembly, and commissioning of fire alarm and life safety systems under the guidance of experienced technicians.

This role provides hands-on training to develop technical skills, NFPA code knowledge, and safe work practices for a long-term career in fire alarm system installation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years in low voltage, electrical, construction, or related trade.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Basic mechanical or electrical aptitude.
• Willingness to learn fire alarm installation practices and local codes.
• Strong teamwork, detail, safety mindset, and communication.
• Basic computer or tablet skills for documentation.
• Ability to manage time and complete tasks on schedule.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation and commissioning of fire alarm and life safety systems.
• Support work on fire alarm components: panels, detectors, pull stations, horns, power supplies.
• Assist senior technicians with device installation, wiring, cable routing, and system startup.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, wiring diagrams, and specs.
• Support testing and verification prior to project completion.
• Follow NFPA 72, local codes, and company standards.
• Maintain jobsite safety, cleanliness, and organization.
• Document projects using company systems.
• Communicate professionally with supervisors, customers, and inspectors.
• Maintain tools and company vehicles; participate in training and certifications.
