Job summary

A fire protection contractor in Connecticut seeks a Fire Alarm Apprentice to support its team. This role is part of a four-year apprenticeship program, combining on-the-job training and classroom instruction, designed to prepare candidates for a career as Journeyman Fire Alarm Technicians. Apprentices will gain skills in inspecting, servicing, and installing fire alarm systems, while enjoying competitive pay and benefits such as full salary during training and covered expenses for travel.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist Journeyman Technicians in their day to day tasks.
  • Ensure customers are serviced at the highest level of satisfaction.
  • Maintain customer relationships and review inspection results.
  • Study and learn NFPA standards for fire alarm systems.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies and company vehicle in good working order.
  • Study and learn NFPA standards for inspection and testing of fire alarm systems; stay current with code requirements and technology changes.
  • Support other W&M teams in their initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

W&M Fire Protection is a full-service fire protection contractor with complete design, installation, and fabrication capability. W&M has proudly served the tri-state and New England areas for over 30 years and offers a challenging and rewarding work environment.

Due to continued growth, we are looking to hire a Fire Alarm Apprentice to support the team in Plantsville, CT. The&M Fire Alarm Apprenticeship Program is a 4-year (8,000 hour) program consisting of both On the Job Learning and related classroom instruction. It is designed for entry level technicians and will prepare them to be Journeyperson Fire Alarm Technicians with exposure to Security, Access Control, CCTV and Nurse Call Systems. When you become a Journeyman Fire Alarm Technician you will be capable of Inspecting, Servicing, Installing, Upgrading, Troubleshooting and making Repairs to fire alarm systems in commercial and residential buildings.

Related Classroom Instruction
  • Apprentices will receive 160 hours per year of classroom instruction directly related to the profession.
  • Apprentices will be paid their full wage while attending classroom training
  • All travel, lodging & meal expenses will be covered
On the Job Learning
  • 2000 hours of On the Job Learning is to be completed and documented each year for a total of 8000 hours for graduation from the program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Journeyman Technicians in their day to day task
  • Ensure customers are serviced at the highest level of satisfaction through quality courteous service, and by applying experience, knowledge, and training.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships and review inspection results with customer.
  • Turn in required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies and company vehicle (if supplied) in good working order.
  • Study and learn NFPA standards for the inspection and testing of fire alarm systems. Stay current with code requirements and technology changes/advancements within the industry.
  • Support other W&M teams in their initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Depending on the customer site, noise level could be quiet (as in a library or public office) or moderate (as in a business office with computers and traffic)
  • Ability to withstand heights and climb ladders comfortably
