Job summary

FinOps Weekly is seeking a FinOps Practitioner to optimize cloud costs across AWS, Azure, and Snowflake in a regulated financial services setting. You will bridge Finance, Engineering, Architecture, and Cloud Operations to drive governance and cost discipline.

Responsibilities include developing cost allocation models, setting governance standards, and delivering dashboards and reports to leadership. Strong FinOps, budgeting, and SQL skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in cloud cost management, cloud operations, or technology finance.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in cloud cost governance, particularly in financial services or similarly regulated sectors.
• Strong knowledge of AWS, Azure, and Snowflake billing models and cost optimization strategies.
• Proficient in budgeting, forecasting, unit economics, and cost transparency within FinOps frameworks.
• Advanced skills in Excel and experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or QuickSight.
• Proven communication skills to effectively engage with both technical and finance leadership.
• FinOps Certified Practitioner or Professional, or a willingness to achieve certification.
• Familiarity with ITIL and cloud governance frameworks.
• Proficient in SQL and/or scripting for cost analytics and automation tasks.
• Strong financial acumen, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail.
• Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize FinOps capabilities across AWS, Azure, and Snowflake.
• Lead governance for cloud expenditures in multi-cloud environments.
• Collaborate with Finance, Engineering, Architecture, Product, and Cloud Ops to track FinOps goals.
• Create cost allocation models, tagging standards, and chargeback/showback frameworks.
• Set governance standards for resource usage and pricing model adoption.
• Analyze cloud costs to identify efficiency improvements and savings opportunities.
• Implement rightsizing, scheduling, and reserved capacity strategies.
• Influence architectural decisions through financial impact analysis.
• Work with leaders on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for cloud spend.
• Build models to illustrate historical trends and unit-cost metrics.
• Present insights to senior leadership via dashboards and reports.
• Use cloud cost management tools for ongoing monitoring and reporting.
• Promote FinOps principles and fiscal accountability across teams.
