Job summary

SES Corporation seeks a FinOps Cloud Engineer to optimize cloud spend across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI. You will implement rightsizing, automate cost controls, and drive governance for a mission-critical, multi-cloud environment.

A Secret clearance is required to start, with US citizenship and a background aligned to DoD/civilian alike. Hybrid role with onsite requirements at times; preferred in proximity to Hanscom AFB, Gunter AFB, Reston, or Huntsville.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Interim Secret clearance required to start; ability to obtain/maintain Secret clearance.
• US citizenship required.
• Strong hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI).
• Experience with cloud cost management tools and scripting/IaC.

Responsibilities

• Implement compute rightsizing across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI to optimize utilization and reduce waste.
• Identify and remediate underutilized or idle resources, including rightsizing storage and removing unattached volumes.
• Develop, modify, and maintain snapshot and backup lifecycle policies to reduce storage costs.
• Analyze logging usage and costs; implement strategies to reduce logging volume and retention.
• Track RI and Savings Plans inventories; support renewal, modification, and purchasing decisions.
• Execute cost optimization recommendations and ensure measurable savings.
• Utilize cloud cost data to identify additional cost-saving opportunities across environments.
• Support cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting activities.
• Collaborate with engineering and operations to ensure cost-aware architectures.
• Develop automation to enforce cost optimization policies and prevent inefficiencies.
• Maintain documentation of cost actions and outcomes.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of FinOps practices and tooling.

This role focuses on implementing technical changes that directly optimize cloud spend, executing cost-saving initiatives identified through FinOps analysis, and continuously improving cost visibility and governance across cloud platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to modernize a leading, global-scale multi-cloud environment in support of a critical mission, supporting USAF system resiliency, security, and cost effectiveness. Location: Hybrid remote; candidates may be required to work onsite as needed.
