Job summary

Butler Weldments is seeking an experienced Cobot Welder to operate and program collaborative robotic welding systems, producing high-quality welded assemblies. Description

The Cobot Welder is responsible for operating, programming, and maintaining collaborative robotic welding systems (cobots) to produce high-quality welded assemblies safely and efficiently. This position combines traditional welding knowledge with robotic automation by setting up fixtures, teaching robot programs, inspecting weld quality, and ensuring production meets customer, quality, and schedule requirements. The Cobot Welder works closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to continuously improve robotic welding processes.

Cobot Operation
  • Operate collaborative robotic welding systems to produce quality weldments.
  • Load and unload components into welding fixtures.
  • Verify correct job orders, drawings, and welding procedures prior to production.
  • Select, verify, and modify welding programs as required.
  • Monitor welding operations and make parameter adjustments when necessary.
  • Ensure all production meets established quality and productivity standards.
Programming & Setup
  • Teach and modify robot paths for new and existing parts.
  • Set up welding fixtures and tooling.
  • Optimize weld sequences to improve efficiency and reduce distortion.
  • Assist Engineering with development of robotic welding applications.
  • Validate new welding programs prior to production release.
Welding & Quality
  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, work instructions, and WPS documents.
  • Perform visual weld inspections to verify workmanship.
  • Use measuring instruments to verify dimensional requirements.
  • Identify weld defects and make corrections as necessary.
  • Adhere to and report quality concerns to supervision and Quality Assurance.
  • Maintain weld traceability and documentation when required.
Equipment Maintenance
  • Perform daily startup and shutdown inspections.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on robotic welding equipment.
  • Replace welding consumables including contact tips, nozzles, liners, and wire.
  • Troubleshoot basic robotic, welding, and fixture issues.
  • Coordinate repairs with Maintenance when required.
Safety
  • Follow all OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum two (2) years of welding experience.
  • Experience with all weld processes.
  • Ability to read blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred

  • Previous experience operating collaborative welding robots.
  • Basic robot programming experience.
  • Experience with fixture setup and design.
  • Experience in heavy fabrication or defense manufacturing.
