Join Our Team as a Finisher!

Are you passionate about metal finishing? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to coordinate our metal finishing function. As a finisher, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Finishing System is a process designed to pre-treat metal (e.g., powder coat and liquid paint) to protect it from the environment. You will work in a production environment, engage in continuous productive activity, and must meet requirements within predetermined time constraints. Tasks require the use of both hands and arms on a repetitive basis for a full range of motion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with loading and unloading parts into racks, barrels, and baskets for heat treating, cleaning, and electroplating.
  • Monitor the basic functions of heat treatment machinery and auxiliary equipment, under guidance from more senior team members.
  • Document temperatures and time exposure for parts during heat treatment and electroplating processes.
  • Clean and remove grease from parts using Ransohoff machines and ensure parts are properly prepared for electroplating.
  • Operate metal finishing equipment such as sand, vapor, and metal sprayers.
  • Follow instructions to control the sequence and order of parts for processing.
  • Use basic measuring equipment to ensure part dimensions and plating thicknesses are within required tolerances.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring that all tools and materials are properly stored after use.
  • Perform all tasks in compliance with established safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Meet department targets and consistently adhere to quality and safety standards.
  • Display a willingness to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure production deadlines are met, reporting any potential delays or issues promptly.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable company policies and rules.
What You’ll Need To Succeed:
  • 0-1 year of work experience with a willingness to learn metal finishing operations.
  • Willingness to work in a hot, noisy environment and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools, with the ability to learn new equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including safety guidelines.
  • Good attention to detail to ensure even finishing.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to articulate information effectively to team members across departments.
  • Basic shop math skills to calculate measurements and weights.
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills to understand and complete requests from team members inside and outside the department.
  • Ability and willingness to follow health, safety & environment procedures accurately, reporting concerns promptly.
  • Ability to work overtime as required to meet production needs.
Physical Demands:
  • Standing: Continuously required to stand and perform tasks.
  • Lifting: Frequently required to lift and carry items, exercising sound judgment and using manual handling or machine lifts as appropriate.
  • Walking: Frequently required to walk moderate distances across the campus.
  • Low Posture: Frequently required to perform tasks involving stooping, bending, crawling, crouching, kneeling, or squatting.
  • Positioning: Frequently required to reach, twist, rotate, and push/pull.
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequently required to use hand-eye coordination for operating equipment and tools.
  • Bending: Frequently involves ascending or descending stairs and ladders.
  • Observation/Eyesight: Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception and color differentiation.
Environmental & Hazardous Conditions
  • Working indoors in manufacturing environments with varying temperature controls.
  • Exposed to fumes, vapors, dust, gases, odors, mist, chemicals, vibration, grease, oils, lasers, and other hazards.
  • Working around machinery with moving parts, vehicles, forklifts, and heavy equipment.
