Compensation
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, with a commitment to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated hourly base pay rate for this position is $20 per hour. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual short-term incentive bonus, subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about metal finishing? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to coordinate our metal finishing function. As a finisher, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Finishing System is a process designed to pre-treat metal (e.g., powder coat and liquid paint) to protect it from the environment. You will work in a production environment, engage in continuous productive activity, and must meet requirements within predetermined time constraints. Tasks require the use of both hands and arms on a repetitive basis for a full range of motion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with loading and unloading parts into racks, barrels, and baskets for heat treating, cleaning, and electroplating.
- Monitor the basic functions of heat treatment machinery and auxiliary equipment, under guidance from more senior team members.
- Document temperatures and time exposure for parts during heat treatment and electroplating processes.
- Clean and remove grease from parts using Ransohoff machines and ensure parts are properly prepared for electroplating.
- Operate metal finishing equipment such as sand, vapor, and metal sprayers.
- Follow instructions to control the sequence and order of parts for processing.
- Use basic measuring equipment to ensure part dimensions and plating thicknesses are within required tolerances.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring that all tools and materials are properly stored after use.
- Perform all tasks in compliance with established safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Meet department targets and consistently adhere to quality and safety standards.
- Display a willingness to perform physical tasks, such as lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure production deadlines are met, reporting any potential delays or issues promptly.
- Understand and comply with all applicable company policies and rules.
What you’ll Need To Succeed:
- 0-1 year of work experience with a willingness to learn metal finishing operations.
- Willingness to work in a hot, noisy environment and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools, with the ability to learn new equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including safety guidelines.
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to ensure even finishing.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to articulate information efficiently and effectively to team members in various departments.
- Basic shop math skills with the ability to calculate measurements and weights.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to understand and complete requests given by team members inside and outside of the department.
- Ability and willingness to follow Health, Safety & Environment procedures accurately, reporting concerns promptly to the safety action team.
- Ability to work overtime as required to meet production needs.
- Standing: Continuously required to stand and perform tasks.
- Lifting: Frequently required to lift and carry items, exercising sound judgment in manual handling or machine lifts, with risk assessments if appropriate.
- Walking: Frequently required to walk moderate distances across the campus.
- Low Posture: Frequently required to perform tasks using a low posture, including stooping, bending, crawling, crouching, kneeling, or squatting.
- Positioning: Frequently required to position self to perform tasks involving reaching, twisting, rotating, and pushing/pulling.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequently required to use hand-eye coordination for operating equipment, machinery, power tools, or office equipment.
- Bending: Frequently ascending or descending stairs and ladders.
- Observation/Eyesight: Frequently required to observe details at close range, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and color differentiation.
Environmental & Hazardous Conditions
- Working indoors in manufacturing environments, with exposure to fumes, vapors, dust, gases, odors, mist, toxic chemicals, vibration, grease, oils, lasers, etc.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels from machinery and forklifts.
- Working around energized equipment with risks of electrocution, burns, or other injuries.
- Exposure to extreme heat conditions (non-weather related).
- Working with machinery with moving parts, vehicles, forklifts, heavy machinery, or sharp objects.
