Job summary

W.R. Case in Bradford, PA is seeking a knife finisher to perform meticulous finishing tasks on Case knives, including buffing, honing, and edge polishing. You will work hands-on in a safety-conscious environment, following standard procedures to achieve a shine and a precise edge.

Responsibilities

• Assuring work area is safe.
• Performing the various skills of finishing a Case knife, including but not limited to buffing blades and gloss buffing.
• Buffing blades by hand (cloth wheel) to add a shine or luster.
• Gloss buffing of the entire knife surface by hand with a cloth buffing wheel.
• Hone to create the cutting edge by hand using a sandpaper belt.
• Polish edge to remove burr from honing with a cloth wheel.
• Perform sand paper/belt changes as required.
• Perform various wheel changes as required.
• Break in the new buff / rake down buff as necessary.
• Apply buffing compound to buffing wheels correctly.
• Measure the angle of the honed edge.
• Determine quality levels and perform inspection before, during and after finishing.
• Maintain cleanliness of the work area during and after jobs.
• Take instructions from supervisors.
• Assist Engineering/Quality departments as needed.

Job description

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Assuring work area is safe.
• Performing the various skills of finishing a Case knife, including but not limited to:
• Buffing Blades: The blades are buffed by hand (using a cloth wheel) to add a shine or luster.
• Gloss Buffing: The entire surface of the knife is buffed by hand, using cloth buffing wheel.
• Hone: Create the cutting edge of the blade by hand, using a sandpaper belt.
• Polish Edge: Removing the burr left over from the honing process. This is done by hand, using a cloth wheel.
• Perform sand paper/belt changes as required.
• Perform various wheel changes as required.
• Breaking in the new buff/raking down buff as necessary.
• Properly applying buffing compound to the buffing wheels.
• Measure the angle of the honed edge.
• Determine quality levels and perform inspection of product, performing required inspection before, during and after finishing.
• Responsible for cleanliness of the work area during and upon his or her completion of jobs.
• Take instructions from supervisors.
• Assist Engineering/Quality departments as needed.
