Job summary

Tucson Asphalt Contractors, Inc. is hiring a skilled Roller Operator to support asphalt paving crews in Southern Arizona. You will operate finish rollers, monitor density and mat temperature, and coordinate with paver operators to maintain a steady paving flow.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience operating finish rollers on asphalt paving projects.
• Strong understanding of compaction techniques, densities, and rolling patterns.
• Ability to read jobsite conditions and adjust rolling methods accordingly.
• Experience working with paving crews and heavy equipment operations.
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance and daily inspection requirements.
• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to OSHA and company standards.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, physically demanding outdoor environments.
• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate finish roller to achieve proper compaction and smooth asphalt surfaces.
• Perform breakdown, intermediate, and finish rolling as required by project specs.
• Maintain proper rolling patterns, speed, and vibration settings.
• Monitor mat temperature and density to ensure quality compaction.
• Work closely with paver operator and crew to maintain consistent paving flow.
• Identify and correct surface imperfections (ridges, lines, soft spots).
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
• Follow all safety protocols and jobsite procedures.
• Assist with general labor tasks when needed.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas.
