Job summary

The Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center in Chicago, IL is seeking an experienced Fine Woodworking Instructor for an in-person, part-time role that complements our four department programs. The CIADC offers programs in Metal Casting, Metalworking & Forging, CNC Fabrication, and Woodworking.

The ideal candidate will teach fine woodworking skills including cutting, milling, joining, finishing and lathe basics to youth and adults, 8-13 hours per week, weekday afternoons and evenings, emphasizing

Qualifications

• Experience teaching fine woodworking to mixed ages.
• Proven ability to guide wood finishing processes.
• Comfortable with wood lathe basics.
• Experience with hardwoods and sheet goods.

Responsibilities

• Lead in-person classes 8-13 hours per week.
• Develop lesson plans and assess student work.
• Maintain safe shop practices and tool use.
• Support youth and adults in creating functional objects.

The Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center (CIADC) is hiring!

CIADC is a non-profit organization that provides education and working access to the Chicagoland public in 4 Departments: Metal Casting, Metalworking & Forging, CNC Fabrication, and Woodworking. We offer programming for Youth, grades 6-12, and Adults of all abilities and interests!

CIADC is looking for an experienced Fine Woodworking Instructor to join our Team. This is an in-person, part-time position with 8-13 hours per week.

The ideal candidate:

• has group teaching experience, ideally within a continuing education setting
• has demonstrated working experience and teaching proficiency in fine woodworking processes including cutting, milling, joining, and finishing of wood objects
• has teaching proficiency in the fundamental use of a wood lathe
• has experience constructing with both hardwoods and sheet goods
• feels confident with safety measures associated with woodworking
• has interest and experience in guiding Youth and Adults with functional, decorative, and sculptural wooden objects
• has the availability to work set weekday afternoon and evenings
• possesses excellent communication skills and proven leadership as an instructor
• is responsible and professional
