Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or related field.
• 3+ years federal accounting or financial management experience.
• Proficiency in AFRs, JVs, financial reporting, crosswalks; DFAS experience.
• Proficient with DoW systems (N-ERP, DAI) and analytics (Advana, Jupiter).
• Active Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain one.
• US Citizenship.
• Must be located in National Capital Region (DC/VA/MD).
• CPA, CISA, CGFM, or CDFM (or within 6 months).

Responsibilities

• Support financial reporting processes, AFRs, GAAP, SFFAS, and OMB policies.
• Investigate GL posting errors, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with finance, procurement, and IT to assess transaction lifecycles and GL accuracy.
• Draft, update, and maintain GL process documentation and SOPs.
• Document reconciliation steps and audit-related financial impacts.
• Develop GL training materials and end-user guides.

Make an impact supporting the Department of War (DoW)and theUnited States Marine Corps (USMC)! Lynch Consultants is seeking a Financial Statement Accountant with a solid understanding of USMC financial reporting and General Ledger accounting who is ready to take on meaningful challenges and make a measurable difference.

Salary:

$80,000 -$130,000 per year. (based on experience)

Work Location and Schedule:

• This position is located in Alexandria, VA. Associatesare required to beon-site at least 2 daysper week (subject to more if and when needed).

Required Qualifications – Must Have:

• MUST have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a Business Management-related field.
• MUSThave at least3+yearsof Federal accounting orfinancial managementexperience.
• MUST haveproficiencyin preparing Annual Financial Reports (AFRs), Reviewing Journal Vouchers(JVs), Financial Reporting, Financial Statement Crosswalks, and experience working at or with DFAS.
• MUST haveproficiencywithDoWfinancial systems (e.g., N-ERP, DAI) and data analytics platforms (e.g.,Advana, Jupiter).
• MUSThave an activeSecret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one.
• MUSTbe aUS Citizen.
• MUSTbe located intheNational Capital Region (DC, Virginia, Maryland).
• MUSThave one of the following professional certifications or the ability to obtain one within 6-months of being hired: CPA, CISA, CGFM, CDFM.

Preferred Qualifications:

• DoW, DON, or USMC experience in federalfinancial management, accounting, or auditreadiness. Experience with N-ERP or DAI.

Job Duties:

• Supportfinancial reporting processes, AFR compilation,and/or accountingin accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards(SFFAS), and/or relevant Department of the Treasury and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) policies.
• Investigate and analyzeGeneral Ledgerposting errors,determineroot causes, and executeappropriate correctiveactions orjournal entries.
• Collaboratewithfinance, procurement, and IT teamsto understand transaction lifecycles and assess how upstream activities affectGL accuracy.
• Draft, update, andmaintainGL process documentation—including Standard Operating Procedures, Desktop Guides, and white papers—ensuring clarity, consistency, and adherence to internal controls.
• Document reconciliation steps, error resolution activities and related financial impactsto support audit requirements and ongoing process improvements.
• Develop andmaintainGL-focused training materials,user guides, and FAQs to promoteaccurateposting practices and reduce recurring discrepancies.
• Provide training and end-user support on GL functionality,month-end close procedures, and best practices for preventing posting errors.

Skills:

• Ability to review and verify financial documentation for accuracy,completeness, and compliance withDoW, DON, and USMC financial managementregulations.
• Experiencedreconciling data across financial systems,identifyingdiscrepancies, andimplementing corrective actions.

• Skilled in performing audit sample selection, review, and follow-up to support auditreadiness and remediation.
• Proven ability to conduct compliance reviews, prepare findings reports, and recommendpolicy or process improvements.
• Advancedproficiencyin Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ability topresent findings to senior stakeholders.
