Job summary

Kratos Defense and Security Solutions seeks a Financial Reporting Accountant for its San Diego corporate team. The role supports consolidated financial statements, SEC filings, and SOX controls while ensuring timely, accurate financial reporting in a hybrid onsite/remote environment.

You will collaborate with Corporate Accounting, BU accounting, FP&A, and internal auditors to maintain data integrity and drive process improvements across multi-entity operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related major.
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal controls (SOX).
  • Experience with financial reporting and consolidation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in SEC filings (10-K/10-Q/8-K) and consolidation processes.
  • Prepare monthly intercompany eliminations and reconciliations.
  • Support lease accounting under ASC 842 and related analyses.
  • Assist with audit schedules and management reports.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The Financial Reporting Accountant position is responsible for supporting the company's financial reporting and global consolidation processes. This role assists in the preparation of consolidated financial statements, SEC filings, and other financial reports while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and SOX internal controls.

The Financial Reporting Accountant works closely with Corporate Accounting, Business Unit accounting teams, FP&A, and internal auditors to ensure financial information is accurate, complete, and timely. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • SEC Filing: Assist in preparation of SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and Proxy) compiling supporting schedules, validating financial information, and ensuring all documentation ties to supporting records and financial statements entered into Workiva.
  • Consolidation: Support the monthly and quarterly global consolidation process, including preparation of consolidated financial statements, foreign currency translation, post-close journal entries, and maintenance of the Longview consolidation application.
  • Intercompany: Prepare monthly intercompany elimination entries and perform intercompany reconciliations. Work with Business Unit accounting teams to resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Division Coordination: Coordinate with corporate and divisional accounting personnel to collect financial data and supporting schedules. Review submissions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Lease Accounting: Assist with lease accounting activities under ASC 842, including maintaining the lease accounting system, preparing quarterly analyses, and supporting Business Units with routine lease-related questions.
  • Audit support: Prepare audit support schedules and provide requested documentation for internal and external auditors.
  • FP&A & Board Presentations: Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process by compiling financial information from Business Units and assisting with Board of Directors presentation materials.
  • Data / Information Integrity: Review financial data for consistency and identify discrepancies, working with Business Units to resolve issues.
  • Reporting Analysis: Prepare financial analyses, reconciliations, and ad hoc reports to support management decision-making.
  • SOX and Internal Controls: Follow established SOX internal controls and company accounting policies to ensure compliance.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Technical Expertise & Systems Proficiency
  • Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Experience with financial reporting, consolidation, or ERP systems preferred.
  • Experience with Workiva, Longview, LeaseQuery, or similar financial reporting applications is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or related major.
  • Minimum 3 years' relevant experience.
