Job description

Medicus Wealth Planning is looking for a financial planner who wants to grow into a major role within an established and growing financial-planning firm.

We are looking for someone with a strong foundation, high potential, an exceptional work ethic, and the desire to become an outstanding financial planner.

This person will work closely with the firm's owner while gradually taking on increasing responsibility for client relationships, financial planning, tax planning, tax preparation, technology, and firm operations.

Over time, our goal is for this person to become one of the key people responsible for running the day-to-day advisory business.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than a job. We want someone who wants to learn quickly, take on responsibility, improve how things are done, and grow alongside the firm.

What You’ll Do
Financial Planning & Client Relationships

You will initially work alongside experienced advisors and progressively take greater ownership of client relationships.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing for and participating in client meetings
  • Developing financial plans and recommendations
  • Following up on planning recommendations
  • Communicating directly with clients
  • Helping clients implement financial-planning strategies
  • Identifying additional planning opportunities
  • Taking increasing responsibility for new client relationships
  • Gradually becoming the primary advisor for a group of existing clients
  • Eventually managing client relationships independently from beginning to end

We want someone who enjoys working with people and wants to become the type of advisor clients trust with important financial decisions.

Comprehensive Financial Planning

You will gain experience across a wide range of planning areas, including:

  • Tax planning
  • Cash-flow planning
  • Social Security and Medicare
  • Employee benefits
  • Equity compensation
  • Insurance
  • Charitable giving
  • Education planning
  • Roth conversions
  • Business-owner planning
Tax Planning & Tax Preparation

Tax planning is a major part of how we serve clients and will be a meaningful part of this position.

You will:

  • Prepare individual income-tax returns
  • Review tax documents
  • Assist with tax projections
  • Calculate estimated tax payments
  • Analyze Roth conversions and other tax strategies
  • Help clients make tax-efficient financial decisions throughout the year
  • Identify tax-planning opportunities during the preparation process
  • Work with increasingly complex returns as your knowledge develops
  • Help improve our tax-planning and tax-preparation systems
Learn and Improve Our Systems

One of the most important parts of this position will be learning how the firm operates.

You will become deeply familiar with our workflows and technology and help us continually make them better.

That includes:

  • Learning our client-service processes
  • Understanding how work flows through the firm
  • Documenting and improving workflows
  • Identifying inefficient or unnecessary steps
  • Developing more consistent processes
  • Helping automate repetitive work
  • Finding better ways to use our technology
  • Helping make sure important tasks don't fall through the cracks
Become an Expert in Our Technology

We rely heavily on technology and expect this person to eventually become one of the firm's internal experts on the systems we use.

Our technology includes platforms such as:

  • Fidelity
  • eMoney
  • Income Lab
  • Holistiplan
  • Monarch Money
  • QuickBooks Online
  • Financial-planning and productivity software
How the Role Will Grow

We expect the responsibilities of this position to increase substantially over time.

Initially, you will:
  • Learn our planning process and service model
  • Assist with client meetings
  • Prepare financial plans
  • Prepare tax returns
  • Learn our technology
  • Begin working directly with clients
As you develop, you will:
  • Lead more client meetings
  • Become the primary advisor for selected clients
  • Take ownership of new client relationships
  • Handle increasingly complex planning situations
  • Perform tax planning independently
  • Review and improve firm processes
  • Become an expert on the firm's technology
  • Take responsibility for making sure client work gets completed
Longer term, you will:
  • Independently manage a substantial group of clients
  • Take primary responsibility for new client relationships
  • Handle complex financial and tax-planning questions
  • Improve how the firm operates
  • Help manage the firm's client-service systems
  • Identify issues before they become problems
  • Help create capacity for continued growth
  • Take meaningful responsibility off the firm's owner

The opportunity and compensation associated with this position can grow significantly as your capabilities and responsibilities grow.
