Job summary

NorthWestern Energy is seeking a Financial Operations Analyst in Butte, MT. The role provides operational accounting support, budgeting and forecasting assistance, and financial reporting using SAP and PowerPlan.

Job Specifications

The Financial Operations Analyst provides operational accounting activities and financial analysis for departments within the operations division. The position coordinates divisional accounting requirements, supports annual and monthly operating and capital budgets and forecasts, prepares reporting, and serves as the accounting and finance liaison for the operating division.

Position Summary

Provide operational accounting support and financial analysis for the operations division. Coordinate accounting requirements, budget and forecast support, and financial reporting; use SAP and PowerPlan systems for daily activities; and serve as the primary Finance contact for the operating division.

Pay Range: Starting base wage of $65,000 to $85,000 per year D.O.E.

Location: Butte, MT

Essential Functions
  • Prepare financial analysis for the operating division
  • Assist in developing the division's operating budget, capital budget, and forecasts
  • Establish and maintain an effective system for analyzing the operating performance of work units
  • Serve as the primary Finance contact for the operating division
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with division managers
  • Use SAP for order and project creation, release, closeout, and financial reporting in accordance with established work processes and accounting requirements
  • Provide monthly analysis of capital and operations and maintenance expenditures for operating areas
  • Provide operational accounting setup and support through an understanding of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission guidelines and requirements
  • Prepare accounting journal entries
  • Process cash as necessary for work processes within operating divisions
  • Support year-end accounting close activities
  • Maintain the operating area construction work in progress ledger
  • Perform billing functions related to damages, customer-requested relocations, Montana Department of Transportation work, advances, contributions in aid of construction, and other applicable items
  • Perform other duties and functions as appropriate

What Is Required
  • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
  • Four-year degree in Finance or Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with three or more years of related experience
  • Understanding of operating and capital budgeting processes, financial analysis techniques, financial reporting, and accounting principlesStrong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong spreadsheet, word-processing, and computer application skills
  • Ability to use technology to solve business problems
  • Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
What Is Desired
  • Experience using SAP and PowerPlan
