Job summary

Sierra Medical Center within Northern Nevada Health System seeks a Financial Counselor to assist patients and families with financial arrangements, verify insurance, apply for assistance programs, and document all payments precisely.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred.
  • Minimum two years' experience in medical billing, collections or coding.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and approves payment arrangements and discusses options with patients/families.
  • Reviews patient self-pay accounts and secures satisfactory payment agreements.
  • Ensures demographic and insurance data are accurate in the system.
  • Documents all payment agreements and sends confirmation letters.

Job summary: Provides financial counseling to patients and families in accordance with the facility's policies. Assists patients/families with financial arrangements including financial assistance, for qualified patients, from outside agencies.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Creates and approves payment arrangements; reviews with patient different payment options and possible financial assistance, i.e., state and local agencies, indigent care
  • Reviews all patient self-pay accounts. Meets with patient/family to obtain a satisfactory payment agreement for all parties
  • Ensures patient demographic and insurance information is correct in the computer system
  • Documents all payment agreements in the computer database; sends payment confirmation letter to patient/family

Qualifications
