Position: Financial Counselor and Lead Educator (Full-Time)

Benefits: 403(b) (employer match available after one year), ten (10) days paid vacation, Agency’s paid holidays, paid sick leave, employer-provided life insurance, employer-provided long-term disability insurance (after one year). Health insurance is not offered at this time.

Salary Range: $41,600 – $52,000 annually

Reports to: Director of Counseling

General Overview: Oversee all agency education programs including curriculum development, execution of current programs including billing and paperwork, development of new education programs, and staff development and metrics to measure program success.

Credit Counseling: The Credit Counselor assists clients in managing their consumer credit and budgeting processes. This position will be accountable for establishing relationships with clients, identifying client needs, analyzing their credit situation, preparing a budget, establishing creditor payment schedules, and implementing repayment programs. In addition, the Credit Counselor may prepare and conduct public presentations for the agency and will be expected to conduct financial literacy classes when scheduled. They will also assist in the training of new counselors through a shadowing process.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Conduct interviews with potential clients to review needs.
  2. Assist clients by analyzing the current credit situation, offering basic training to educate clients on credit and budgeting techniques.
  3. Develop and clearly present payment and budget recommendations to clients with intent to gain consensus on a workable plan of action.
  4. Understand creditor payment agreements and guidelines; generate credit payment schedules amortizing debt over a period of 5 years or less.
  5. Regularly monitor clients to assure payment plans are adhered to; counsel clients when financial hardships arise; audit files annually.
  6. Accurately generate and complete administrative paperwork required for each counseling session.
  7. Act as a team player with agency staff, partnering with the entire agency team to continually improve the services offered to clients.
  8. Become a Certified Consumer Credit Counselor within six months of employment; maintain Certified Consumer Credit Counselor designation by meeting all of the necessary requirements.
  9. Attend State, Regional, and National meetings, as required.
  10. Occasional travel is required. This is not limited to within Sheboygan County.
  11. Normal work week is forty (40) to forty-five (45) hours per week, with occasional nights and weekends.
  12. Must be willing to become a HUD Certified Counselor within 6 months of start date.
  13. Prepare and conduct educational and classroom presentations in school and corporate settings.
  14. Handle telephone inquiries about various agency programs; promote agency and its various programs to community, church, or school groups.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Must feel comfortable with public speaking and teaching.
  2. Must be a self-starter, able to work individually as well as in a team environment; enjoy working with people - prior experience dealing with customers preferred.
  3. Prior experience in financial or banking industry preferred; position requires bonding.
  4. An understanding of budgeting and/or basic finances preferred. Knowledge of insurance, real estate, or accounting a plus.
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  6. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  7. May require evening or weekend client appointments.
