Wyandot Memorial Hospital in Upper Sandusky, OH is seeking a Financial Counselor to join the Patient Financial Services team. This full-time role provides proactive financial counseling to patients, helping navigate bills, assistance programs, and payment plans while ensuring policy compliance.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and an AAPC certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months). Strong communication and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AAPC certification in medical billing/coding or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Understanding of insurance billing, including Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial plans preferred.
• Experience with medical terminology and coding is a plus.
• Excellent written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.
• Confidentiality and customer service focus.

Responsibilities

• Provide financial counseling to patients regarding medical bills, payment plans, and financial assistance.
• Review patient documentation to determine eligibility for hospital financial assistance programs.
• Assist patients with completing Financial Assistance applications.
• Collect and post patient payments and establish payment plans.
• Ensure Good Faith Estimates are provided in compliance with guidelines.
• Collaborate with providers and Revenue Cycle team to ensure smooth patient workflow.
• Maintain confidentiality and communicate clearly with patients.
