Job summary

AdventHealth Orlando is seeking a Patient Access Specialist to review daily census, assist with charity programs, and manage Medicaid-related billing tasks. The role requires strong math, basic computer skills, and clear English communication.

You will work with Case Management and Billing teams, ensure documentation accuracy, and help patients navigate financial assistance. Full-time, day shift in Orlando, FL; pay range $18.87-$30.19 per hour; background screening required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1+ year of position-related experience required.
• CPAS certification preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.
• Proficient in basic computer use and math.

Responsibilities

• Review daily census and process cases for patient assistance with proper documentation.
• Counsel patients on hospital accounts for charity programs and state-funded programs.
• Identify Medicaid SOC and submit to DCF.
• Maintain patient billing queues and ensure compliance.
• Prepare financial assistance encounters timely; adhere to guidelines.
• Assist patients with financial or billing inquiries on arrival.
• Generate daily reports on in-ppatient and observed patients.

Job Description:

• Reviews daily census and processes cases for patients requesting assistance, ensuring all proper documentation is obtained.
• Counsels patients or representatives on hospital accounts to meet requirements for charity programs and state-funded programs.
• Identifies in-patients with Medicaid Share of Cost (SOC) for bill tracking and submission to the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
• Identifies patients with Medicaid eligibility who have delivered a newborn during the current admission and adds the newborn to the guarantor's Medicaid.
• Maintains effective rapport with Case Management staff to aid in proper discharge planning and ensure financial assessments are updated.
• Reviews daily census for uninsured or underinsured patients to determine necessary interventions and completes thorough financial assessments.
• Maintains a general understanding of federal, local, and state program requirements to determine payer sources for uninsured patients.
• Reviews financial assistance forms and prepares encounters for financial assistance programs in a timely manner, adhering to guidelines.
• Assists patients or responsible parties requiring financial or billing assistance upon arrival at the facility.
• Accurately works and maintains all assigned work queues in the hospital billing system.
• Adheres to corporate compliance guidelines and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• Compiles daily reports to ensure all in-patient and observation patients are reviewed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Intermediate knowledge of computers, internet use and typing skills required.
• Must have basic understanding of Medical Terminology.
• Good communication skills when discussing personal/patient related issues.
• Responsive to ever-changing hospital needs and acts accordingly.
• Proficiency in performance of basic math functions, capability of communicating professionally and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Education:

• Associate [Preferred]
• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]

Work Experience:

• 1+ year of position-related experience [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Certified Patient Account Specialist (CPAS) [Preferred]
