Job summary

Fairfax Behavioral Health in Washington state seeks a Financial Counselor to verify benefits and eligibility, complete admissions paperwork, and assist in preparing the financial folder. You will provide patient financial counseling and collect any out‑of‑pocket amounts at admission, coordinating with Intake and Utilization Review to obtain timely authorization.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with a minimum of two years experience in admissions and/or collections
  • Working knowledge of managed care and business software programs
  • A good understanding of insurance plans and the ability to interpret benefits and calculate copays, deductibles, and coinsurance is also very helpful

Responsibilities

  • Verifying benefits and eligibility for potential and actual patient admissions, for completing the actual admission/registration process required for the patient's admission to the hospital and for assisting in the preparation of the financial folder.
  • Providing patient financial counseling and collecting any out of pocket amounts from patients at the time of or during admission.
  • Coordinating with Intake and Utilization Review Departments and communicating information regarding benefit and coverage requirements in a timely manner to obtain authorization for the patient's stay.
  • Identifying potential payment and risk issues and communicating this information to the Admissions Team or Director of Outpatient in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and completion of charge tickets on a daily basis and assisting outpatient services in maintaining high integrity and compliance with payer requirements.
  • Serving as a technical resource regarding all aspects of Admissions and financial counseling and providing admissions training as needed.
