The role supports admissions processes and financial counseling within a hospital setting near Grand Rapids, MI.

The position emphasizes accurate data entry in MS4, coordinating with the Business Office, and helping patients understand and access available benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and 1-3 years of related experience, e.g., medical billing or collections.
• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, family members, co-workers, and supervisors.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and complex information.
• Strong knowledge of financial counseling, payment planning and collection techniques.

Responsibilities

• Review admissions within 24 hours to verify accuracy of insurance verification and benefits.
• Code and enter the verification of all insurance benefits, approvals, and payments in the MS4 patient record.
• Identify all potential uncompensated cases and notify the Business Office Manager promptly.
• Determine patient co-pays, deductibles and plan limitations, and conduct a financial interview to arrange payment.
• Utilize the Length of Stay formula to guide collection activity.
• Assist self-pay patients with enrollment in Medicaid or other insurance benefit eligibility.
• Report safety concerns and follow hospital safety policies.

Position Summary

The Financial Counselor is responsible for reviewing insurance eligibility, benefits and authorization with patients, explaining their insurance coverage and collecting any remaining patient balance due.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities incude but not limited to review admissions within 24 hours to authenticate the accuracy of all (primary and secondary) insurance verification and benefits, demographics and intake scans, creates a new fact sheet for any corrections or changes; accurately code and enter the verification of all insurance benefits, approvals, and payments in the MS4 patient record; identifies all potential uncompensated cases and notifies the Business Office Manager in a timely manner; determines all applicable patient co-pays, deductibles and plan limitations, including calendar year and lifetime limitations, and conducts a financial interview to arrange for payment; accurately utilizes the accepted Length of Stay (LOS) formula to determine appropriate collection activity; assists self-pay patients with enrollment in Medicaid services, or determines other insurance benefit eligibility and enrollment; reports any safety concerns & follows the Hospital’s Safety policies.
