Overview

Medical Behavioral Hospital of Clear Lake, Texas is seeking a Financial Counselor in the Houston area. The Financial Counselor will ensure accurate, timely documentation for insurance verification, billing, and collections.

Responsibilities

• Audit admission packets and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
• Counsel patients on financial obligations, including out-of-pocket costs.
• Collect payments and complete financial assistance paperwork.
• Prepare and submit adjustment forms for charity or administrative adjustments.
• Manage payment arrangements via promissory notes.
• Maintain collection logs, charity logs, and adjustment logs daily.
• Report weekly to the Business Office Director and participate in accounts receivable meetings.
• Analyze data to determine appropriate actions for timely payments.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external insurance partners.
• Stay updated with regulatory changes and hospital policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
• At least 3 years of healthcare billing and collections experience, preferably in a hospital or behavioral health setting.
• Extensive knowledge of Commercial Insurance and Medicare/Medicaid processes.
• Strong understanding of insurance verification and patient account management.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Proficiency in financial data interpretation and strategic actions.
• Collaborative mindset and cross-departmental effectiveness.
