Overview
Medical Behavioral Hospital of Clear Lake, Texas is seeking a Financial Counselor in the Houston area. The Financial Counselor will ensure accurate, timely documentation for insurance verification, billing, and collections.

Responsibilities
- Audit admission packets and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
- Counsel patients on financial obligations, including out-of-pocket costs.
- Collect payments and complete financial assistance paperwork.
- Prepare and submit adjustment forms for charity or administrative adjustments.
- Manage payment arrangements via promissory notes.
- Maintain collection logs, charity logs, and adjustment logs daily.
- Report weekly to the Business Office Director and participate in accounts receivable meetings.
- Analyze data to determine appropriate actions for timely payments.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external insurance partners.
- Stay updated with regulatory changes and hospital policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of healthcare billing and collections experience, preferably in a hospital or behavioral health setting.
- Extensive knowledge of Commercial Insurance and Medicare/Medicaid processes.
- Strong understanding of insurance verification and patient account management.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Proficiency in financial data interpretation and strategic actions.
- Collaborative mindset and cross-departmental effectiveness.
