Job summary

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with post-qualification experience in senior commercial finance or Financial Controller roles.
• Strong track record of improving gross margins and profitability.
• Experience in pricing, negotiating contracts and protecting profitability.
• Background in labour- or operations-intensive environments (logistics, 3PL, distribution, manufacturing, e-commerce).
• Confident communicator with commercial acumen; engages with customers, operations and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Develop pricing models and rate cards; price new business and negotiate contracts/ renewals.
• Improve gross profit by analysing client-level profitability and driving cost-to-serve improvements.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning for growth.
• Identify and implement AI and automation opportunities across finance and the wider business.
• Manage Enterprise Ireland relationships, grants and funding applications/compliance.

Job description

We’re partnering with a growing, e-commerce international business in Waterford to recruit a Financial Controller to join them on a full-time, permanent basis. They are looking for a commercially driven Financial Controller to help reshape them for their next stage of growth. You will sit on the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the Manager Director.

This is not a traditional finance role. You will spend time with customers, the sales team and operations, negotiating pricing and contracts, challenging how processes are done and having a strategic input.

Key Responsibilities:

• Commercial Pricing & Contracts: Develop pricing models and rate cards, price new business, negotiate customer contracts and renewals, and protect margins through effective commercial terms.
• Profitability & Cost Management: Improve gross profit by analysing client-level profitability, identifying unprofitable work and driving pricing, productivity and cost-to-serve improvements.
• Financial Planning & Growth: Lead budgeting, forecasting and scenario planning, assessing the financial, capacity and working-capital implications of new business and expansion.
• AI, Automation & Efficiency: Identify and implement AI and automation opportunities across finance and the wider business, building business cases and tracking cost savings.
• Enterprise Ireland & Funding: Manage the relationship with Enterprise Ireland, identify relevant grants and supports, and oversee funding applications, claims and compliance.
• Financial Control & Compliance: Oversee management accounts, cash flow, debtors, creditors, payroll, Irish and UK tax compliance, audits and financial controls, maximising the use of Dynamics 365 Business Central and Jet Reports.
• Leadership & Strategy: Lead and develop the finance team, contribute to strategic planning and business development, and provide data-driven commercial insights to senior leadership.
• Business Unit Performance: Own revenue and margin targets for the back-office and VAT services business, driving its growth as a commercial offering while establishing clear KPIs and accountability across the business.

Requirements:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with 5+ years’ post-qualification experience in senior commercial finance or Financial Controller roles.
• Proven track record of improving gross margins, with measurable results.
• Strong experience in pricing products or services, negotiating customer contracts and protecting profitability.
• Background in a labour- or operations-intensive environment, such as logistics, 3PL, distribution, manufacturing, assembly or e-commerce.
• Confident communicator with strong commercial acumen, comfortable engaging with customers, operational teams and senior leadership.
• Hands-on, commercially minded approach, balancing strategic leadership with day-to-day financial and operational involvement.
• Curious and proactive about AI and automation, with practical experience or examples of using technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central, Jet Reports, multi-entity and multi-currency environments is desirable.
