The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of construction accounting and, ideally, federal government contracting requirements. This individual will work closely with company leadership and project management to monitor financial performance, improve processes, and support informed business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with project managers and operations personnel to evaluate project financial status, identify variances, and address potential cost or cash flow concerns.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal contracting and project accounting requirements.
Accounting Operations & External Coordination
  • Manage and coordinate outsourced accounting firms, external CPAs, and other accounting support personnel.
  • Establish expectations and review deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and financial visibility.
  • Maintain organized, reliable, and audit-ready financial records.
Strategic Financial Support & Compliance
  • Assist company leadership with annual budgeting, financial forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate tax preparation, external audits, and other financial compliance activities.
  • Support financial planning and decision-making as the company expands its federal construction and infrastructure operations.
  • Identify financial risks, reporting discrepancies, and opportunities for operational improvement.
Requirements
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive accounting or financial management experience.
  • Strong construction accounting experience and/or experience with federal government contracting strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial statements, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, project billing, cost tracking, and construction financial management preferred.
  • Experience coordinating outsourced accounting firms, external CPAs, or third-party financial support personnel preferred.
  • Familiarity with government contracting financial requirements and compliance practices is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage; experience with Deltek or Procore is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
