Job summary

Simply Trees, East Texas-based online nursery, is seeking a Financial Controller to own the financial engine behind rapid growth. Onsite role, you’ll run close processes, build forecasts, and strengthen internal controls.

You’ll oversee AP, AR, and payroll, partner with leadership on planning and compliance, and ensure GAAP adherence while driving margin opportunities across our ecommerce operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA/CMA a plus.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and internal controls.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow modeling.
• Advanced Excel and financial software proficiency.
• High-growth or eCommerce experience preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Financial Controller — Simply Trees | East Texas (Onsite) | $65,000–$100,000

Hundreds of varieties, thousands of orders, and a mission to make quality greenery genuinely accessible — while setting the bar for what customers should expect from this industry.

We've grown fast. Now we're looking for someone to own the financial engine behind it.

The Role

As Financial Controller, you'll run our financial operations end to end — and have a real seat at the table when decisions get made. You will:

• Own the monthly close and produce accurate, timely financial statements
• Build forecasts, budgets, and cash flow models that guide real business decisions
• Oversee AP, AR, and payroll, and strengthen our accounting processes and internal controls
• Analyze performance to surface trends, risks, and margin opportunities before they become obvious
• Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams on financial planning, compliance, and process improvement
• Ensure adherence to GAAP and all relevant regulations

This isn't a role where you inherit a perfect system and maintain it. You'll be building and improving as you go.

What We're Looking For

• Strong accounting and finance background, including GAAP, accounting systems, and financial controls
• Ability to prepare, review, and interpret financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
• Advanced analytical skills — you can build a financial model from scratch, not just maintain one
• Experience with budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning, ideally in a high-growth or eCommerce environment
• Advanced Excel proficiency and comfort with financial software
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA is a plus, not a requirement)
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently
• Clear communicator with integrity, reliability, and a bias toward continuous improvement
