Job summary

Qualifications

Role Description

The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial operations, including managing accounting activities, monitoring budgets, and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This contract role will prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, support month-end and year-end close processes, and maintain internal controls that meet regulatory and organizational requirements. The position will collaborate with project managers and leadership to provide financial insights on construction and housing initiatives, assist with cost tracking, and support audits and compliance reviews. This is a hybrid role based in Milwaukee, WI, with a mix of on-site work and some work-from-home flexibility to complete analysis, documentation, and reporting tasks. The Financial Controller will also contribute to process improvements, implement best practices in finance and accounting, and provide clear, data-driven recommendations to support decision-making.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong Accounting and Financial Reporting skills, including experience with general ledger management and period-end close processes.
• Candidates should possess expertise in Finance and Financial Statements, with the ability to prepare, interpret, and present balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
• Candidates should possess solid Analytical Skills, including the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and support strategic recommendations.
• Candidates should possess proficiency with financial and accounting software, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools.
• Relevant experience in construction, housing, government, or public sector finance is beneficial.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certifications such as CPA or CMA are a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, integrity in handling financial information, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
