Job summary

Total Comfort Heating & Air in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of our service center. As a key member of the local leadership team, you will partner with the General Manager and department heads to improve financial performance, strengthen internal controls, and support continued business growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• Minimum five years of progressive general accounting experience.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and internal controls.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems; JD Edwards is a plus.
• Excel proficiency and MS Office skills.
• Ability to lead and develop an accounting team.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting and financial-control activities for the service center.
• Partner with leadership on financial planning, performance, and improvement initiatives.
• Oversee budgets, forecasts, and inventory controls.
• Analyze financial results across service, sales, dispatch, fleet, customer service, purchasing, safety, and HR.
• Provide financial reporting, variance analysis, and recommendations to leadership.
• Establish internal controls for inventory, purchasing, labor, and operations.
• Coordinate monthly financial statements, rolling forecasts, annual operating plans, and capital plans.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Review and reconcile account balances.
• Oversee billing, credit, and collections.
• Recruit, develop, and lead the local accounting team.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and company policies.

Total Comfort Heating & Air is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations of our Fredericksburg service center. What You’ll Do

• Lead all accounting and financial-control activities for the service center.
• Partner with the General Manager and department leaders on financial planning, performance, and improvement initiatives.
• Oversee operating and capital budgets, financial forecasts, and inventory controls.
• Analyze financial results across service, sales, dispatch, fleet, customer service, purchasing, safety, and HR.
• Provide financial reporting, variance analysis, labor-wage evaluations, and recommendations to leadership.
• Establish and maintain internal controls for inventory, purchasing, shipping and receiving, labor reporting, and operational processes.
• Conduct profitability and cost-reduction analyses across the business.
• Coordinate the development of monthly financial statements, rolling forecasts, annual operating plans, and capital plans.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures.
• Review and reconcile account balances.
• Oversee billing, credit, and collections.
• Prepare annual budgets and monitor performance against established plans.
• Recruit, develop, and lead the local accounting team.
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least five years of progressive general-accounting experience.
• Equivalent combinations of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience with ERP or computerized accounting systems; JD Edwards experience is a plus.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships across departments and leadership levels.
• Proven ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced operating environment.
• Previous team leadership or accounting-management experience.
