Job summary

Forum Investment Group in Denver, CO seeks an experienced accounting leader to oversee corporate financial reporting for a non-traded REIT. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related work experience.

  • Experience with Yardi is a plus.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

This role is responsible for providing accounting oversight and corporate financial reporting for a non-traded multifamily real estate investment trust (REIT). This includes developing and executing accounting initiatives that support the REIT structure, managing REIT property accounting, and preparing periodic and appropriate GAAP financial statements for the REIT on an ongoing basis. This role is responsible for the reporting and financial statements for internal and external users of the REIT’s financial information. The ideal candidate will have prior real estate industry experience, corporate financial reporting (SEC compliant) experience and possess problem-solving skills with appropriate attention to detail.

  • Full management and oversight of the external reporting process, including quarterly reporting to banks and investors and the annual audit.
  • Responsible for technical accounting, including consolidation, eliminations, and minority interest. Additional technical areas include ASC 805 (asset acquisition accounting) and 1031 transaction / UPREIT accounting.
  • Responsible for accounting related to REIT and Operating Partnership equity transactions, including issuances, redemptions, and distributions.
  • Review and prepare financial reporting for senior management and a Board of Directors, including the preparation and/or review of variance and trend explanations.
  • Serve as the primary accounting subject matter expert for new investments, financing transactions, and complex ownership structures. Research and document accounting conclusions under U.S. GAAP and present recommendations to Chief Financial Officer and Executive Committee.
  • Oversight of the property accounting function and relationship with third party property management accounting groups
  • Lead REIT treasury and liquidity management processes, including cash forecasting, capital planning, redemption funding analysis, debt covenant compliance, and evaluation of capital availability to support acquisitions, operating needs, distributions, and share repurchase requests.
  • Responsible for maintaining the quality and efficiency of the monthly accounting and financial reporting process including oversight of third-party fund administrator.
  • Interpret and analyze financial results for reasonableness.
  • Develop and modify reports as needed to meet changing business needs.
  • Maintain financial systems setups and report layouts including financial spreadsheet models.
  • Assist with preparation and review of property budgets and/or forecast.
  • Assist with analysis related to monthly NAV calculation.
  • Prepare and/or review financial information for external auditors and other reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain documents and monitor compliance with GAAP and Internal Control policies.
  • Oversee month end close process to ensure reporting deadlines are achieved.
  • Research accounting issues and determine appropriate treatment under GAAP.
  • Coordinate with tax department regarding income tax compliance, providing information, as necessary.

Education, Experience & Technical Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related work experience required.
  • 10+ years of experience in accounting, including a strong knowledge of GAAP and corporate financial reporting.
  • Prior REIT experience, including TRS and 1031 transactions, strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Experience in Yardi is a plus but not required.

Compensation Information:

Base salary range is $160,000 to $200,000. This range is estimated for this role; actual pay may be different.
