Sport Dimension Inc. in Carson, CA, is seeking a Financial Controller to run the accounting department.

Reporting to the Group Controller, you will own the monthly close, financial reporting and controls, and lead a team covering accounts receivable, billing, accounts payable, general accounting and e-commerce accounting. This is a hands-on role: you will close the books, review and post entries, build reports and optimize processes, while coordinating with our Hong Kong team on intercompany

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and multi-state sales tax
• ERP experience; Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus
• Advanced Excel skills and hands‑on leadership capability
• Bilingual in Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus

• Oversee inventory and landed cost accounting, duties, freight and tariffs
• Reconcile e-commerce and marketplace sales and payouts
• Oversee royalty accounting and related settlements
• Oversee sales tax compliance and liaise with auditors
• Oversee payroll accounting, 401(k) and benefits accounting

Sport Dimension Inc. is a sporting goods, water sports and toys company in Carson, California, working with our group companies in Hong Kong and Asia. Our brands include Wham-O, Body Glove, Jetpilot, Stohlquist, Morey Bodyboards, BZ, Churchill Swimfins and Nautica, sold through major US retailers, e-commerce and specialty dealers.

The role

We are looking for a Financial Controller to run our accounting department. Reporting to the Group Controller, you will own the monthly close, financial reporting and controls, and lead a team covering accounts receivable, billing, accounts payable, general accounting and e-commerce accounting.

This is a hands‑on role. You will do the work as well as lead it: close the books, review and post entries, build the reports and fix the processes yourself. You will work closely with the Group Controller and our Hong Kong team, including regular calls that sometimes fall outside US business hours.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly and year-end close, the general ledger, journal entries and reconciliations, and deliver accurate, on‑time financial statements
• Lead and develop the accounting team, including hiring and training
• Build and maintain internal controls, accounting policies and procedures
• Manage cash, banking and cash flow forecasting
• Lead the budget process and variance analysis, and give management clear reporting on margins and results
• Manage intercompany accounting and reporting with our Hong Kong group companies and the Group Controller
• Oversee inventory and landed cost accounting for imported product, including duties, freight, customs and tariff refunds, and inventory counts with the warehouse
• Reconcile e‑commerce and marketplace sales and payouts (Amazon, Walmart.com, our brand websites and other channels)
• Oversee royalty accounting in both directions: royalties we pay as a licensee, and royalties we collect from our licensees, including review of their royalty reports, plus settlement and enforcement income
• Accounting for an affiliated licensing company: royalty and advance receipts, and agent commissions
• Oversee sales commission calculations
• Oversee customer credit, collections and credit insurance, and retailer deductions and chargebacks
• Manage sales tax and other tax compliance, and work with outside CPAs and auditors on the audit and tax filings
• Oversee payroll accounting, 401(k) and benefits accounting, insurance and certificates of insurance
• Improve our processes and systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Accounting or Finance; CPA a plus
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as an Assistant Controller or Senior Accounting Manager
• Experience in consumer products, import/distribution or retail accounting (inventory, landed cost, retailer deductions)
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and multi-state sales tax
• ERP experience; Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a plus
• Advanced Excel
• A hands‑on team leader: organized, accurate and comfortable in a fast‑paced environment
• Bilingual in Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus

Pay and benefits

Pay range: $110,000 to $130,000 per year. Full time, exempt, on site in Carson, CA.
