Job summary

Qualifications

Job Title: Financial Assistant
Department: Finance / Administration
Reports to: Finance Director or CFO and Business Office Manager

Position Summary

The Financial Assistant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparingreports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and museum policies. This role supports the museum’s financial health and assists leadership in making informed fiscalDecisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger
  • Assist in monitoring expenses against budget
  • Support audit processes, including preparation of schedules zand documentation for external auditors
  • Collaborate with development, operations, and program staff to ensure proper accounting treatment of revenue and expenses
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (relevant professional experience may be substituted for degree requirement)
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit or museum setting
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Blackbaud, or similar)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with fund accounting
  • Familiarity with museum operations and finance
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Typical office environment within a museum setting
  • Occasional attendance at events or meetings outside regular hours may be required
Compensation

Salary range is $50,000 – $55,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
