The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Urology is ready to welcome a collaborative and motivated Financial Analyst to provide accounting, financial, and productivity analysis, leadership, and support. The primary responsibility of this position will be to assist with budget preparation, financial compliance monitoring and documentation, cost accounting analysis of financial reports and data, monitoring and reconciling accounts, general ledger entries, and the preparation of dashboards and reports for the leadership team. Additionally, this position will need to assist with analysis of payments, payer mix, and other data as determined.
Financial Oversight and Budgeting:
- Monitor and reconcile account expenditures, irregularities, answer inquiries regarding usage and status of accounts; advise on usage and status; provide recommendations and implement corrective actions.
- Develop forecasting reports for monitoring and trending data related to urology for budgeting purposes.
- Review totals, prepare monthly and yearly reports, accruals, salary and fringe predictions for budgets. Conduct monthly monitoring and validation of general ledger and entries.
- Understand risk points and work to minimize them.
- Ensure reimbursement is being received appropriately by understanding the accounting structure.
- Research and follow up with payers when remits or reimbursements are not as expected.
- Collaborate with the financial team to balance accounts, set up accruals, close accounts, review malpractice reports, and analyze departmental data as needed.
- Review and analyze Funds Flow monthly and prepare entries for proper fund deployment.
- Track CCOM commitments and purchased services.
- Assist with payment and payer mix analysis as needed.
- Contribute to policy and procedure implementation and external reporting compliance.
- Review data regularly for analysis and sharing with leadership.
- Complete routine account reconciliations and prepare reports.
- Provide dashboards related to various areas of urology practice.
- Support financial improvements through data analysis and querying.
- Prepare financial forecasts and reports as requested by the Administrator.
Financial Analysis and Planning:
- Assist in developing financial proformas for planning.
- Identify business improvement opportunities through data analysis.
- Liaise with the University of Iowa Foundation regarding spending and transfers.
- Serve as the department's point of contact between the university and external entities.
- Manage billing setup for new providers, effort entry, and report generation.
- Identify and implement operational efficiencies.
Transaction Processing:
- Correct accounts using JE, WebCV, payCV, and request corrections from other departments.
- Process transactions/payments in the ePro system.
- Resolve account discrepancies and manage related documentation and approvals.
- Act as approval officer for departmental transactions.
Leadership and Training:
- Potentially provide staff training and supervision.
- Assist with MFK, travel, purchasing questions, and troubleshooting.
- Develop project plans and workflows.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 1-3 years of accounting or financial experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis, Microsoft Office, and databases.
- Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and judgment skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with account reconciliation and in a large academic medical center.
- Knowledge of university policies and tools like Peoplesoft, StrataJazz, PowerBI, EFR.
