The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking a Financial Analyst III to support accounts receivable billing, record-keeping, collection, and reconciliation functions. This role acts as liaison with project management and internal and external customers to ensure accurate and timely billing and cash collections.

Based at 2 Broadway with full-time hours, the position offers telework one day per week.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist in month-end system closing and reconcile reports to GL.
  • Maintain AR data in PeopleSoft; post AR reports for public use.
  • Prepare cost reporting and miscellaneous billings; support daily tasks.
  • Manage collections and customer inquiries with supporting documents.
  • Support reporting and analysis for the AR group to the Senior Manager.
  • Respond to audit requests and participate in compliance reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Financial Analyst III

DEPT/DIV: Account Receivable Reconciliation & Process

WORK LOCATION: 2 Broadway

FULL/PART-TIME: FULL

SALARY RANGE: $86,700 - $96,313

DEADLINE: Until filled

This position is eligible for teleworking, which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective hire date.

Position Objective

The Financial Analyst III provides support in the performance of the Accounts Receivable system billing, record keeping, collection, and account reconciliation functions. This position acts as a liaison between project management as well as internal and external customers to ensure accurate and timely billing and cash collections.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in month-end system closing, including reconciling all work order detail reports to the general ledger. Prepare monthly account analysis and prepare adjusting journal entries as necessary.
  • Maintain internal databases of monthly and year-to-date files from PeopleSoft and be responsible for accurately posting Monthly Accounts Receivable reports on the public site for common users. Work with agency project managers for reporting, maintenance, and auditing requests.
  • Provide various work order cost reporting and analysis as directed. Prepare miscellaneous billings as necessary. Complete day-to-day responsibilities including cash, work order requests, and collection efforts.
  • Collections and Customer Inquiry management. Review, substantiate, and gather all supporting documents.
  • Support the Senior Manager in reporting, reviewing, and analyzing day-to-day processes and requests throughout the Accounts Receivable group.
  • Respond to internal and external audit requests.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Must possess understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Must have experience with monthly general ledger closing and financial reporting.
  • Must possess knowledge of Accounts Receivable and Collection processes.
  • Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), including pivot tables.
  • Must possess outstanding writing skills and oral communication skills.
  • Must have excellent analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Must be able to perform the functions of this position without the need for direct hands-on supervision from the immediate supervisor. It is expected that the individual in this position will take initiative to resolve issues without constant supervision.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) (preferably in accounting, finance, business, business administration, economics, or related field). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 4 years progressive financial/accounting experience with a major government or corporate entity. A master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) or MBA
  • Minimum 1 year of knowledge of PeopleSoft system software
