Job summary

Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore seeks a Financial Analyst to support the Engineering for Professionals and Executive and Professional Education teams within the Engineering Business Office by analyzing financial data, monitoring budgets, and preparing reports and projections to guide business decisions.

The role performs financial analysis, budgeting support, cost and revenue monitoring, and prepares management reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
  • Three years of progressively responsible related financial experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret data to evaluate and determine past financial performance and/or make financial projections for management whom must make overall business decisions.
  • Provide interpretation of accounts, methods, and records for management.
  • Conduct studies of cost and financial results of business activities; recommend adjustments and other cost improvement measures.
  • Review costs and perform cost benefit analysis for projects and/or programs.
  • Produce financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
  • Provide reports, findings, and recommendations to management.
  • Assist with preparation of special studies, reports, and analyses.
  • Recommend budget adjustments and other cost improvement measures.
  • Recommend quality control and process improvements regarding the overall business process.
  • Review and assist with analysis of capital expenditures proposals, profit plans, operating records and financial statements.
  • Make recommendations for resolving funding shortfalls.
  • Oversee simple to moderately complex budget accounts
  • Keep abreast and apply a working knowledge of laws and regulations that impact compliance.
  • Use various software applications such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages to assemble, manipulate, and format data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Whiting School of Engineering is seeking a FinancialAnalyst to support the Engineering for Professionals and the Executive and Professional Education teams within the Engineering Business Office by analyzing financial data, monitoringbudgets and expenditures, and preparing reports and projectionsthat help guide business decisions.

The Financial Analyst performs analysis and data reviews toassist management in establishing and controlling budgets, settingfinancial goals, making projections, and meeting fiscal objectives.Performs financial activities in support of various functions,e.g., budgeting, financial planning, revenue and expendituremonitoring against budget, reconciliations and changes, andconsolidation. Extracts financial data from various accounting andinformation systems and generates reports. Performs basic tomoderately complex statistical cost and financial analysis ofreports and data and prepares reports for management to improvefinancial performance and compliance.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare revenue invoices and transfers.
  • Prepare payroll transactions for appointments andcontracts.
  • Prepare accounts payable transactions (check and POrequests).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or relatedfield.
  • Three years of progressively responsible related financialexperience.

Failure to meetthis requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas,laboratories, working with research subjects, or involvingcommunity contact requires documentation of immune status againstRubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received theTdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may includedocumentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicellavaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratorytesting. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases areordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except forthose employees who provide results of blood tests or immunizationdocumentation from their own health care providers. Anyvaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no costin our Occupational Health office.
