Job description

The Financial Analyst will support the Chancery Finance Office in providing accounting and financial services to parishes, schools, Chancery, and other diocesan entities. The role is a key part of the Diocese’s evolving shared services model.

This position will focus primarily on accounting and bookkeeping functions, while also providing exposure to financial planning, budgeting, and audit‑related activities. The Financial Analyst will work closely with members of the Chancery Finance Office team and will receive structured training to build a strong foundation in Diocesan financial operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to learn new systems, processes, and financial concepts, with the ability to grow into expanded responsibilities over time.

This position is well suited for either a recent graduate seeking to build a career in finance or an experienced professional looking to apply their skills in a mission‑driven environment.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide accounting and bookkeeping support, including but not limited to processing accounts payable and receivable, maintaining general ledger activity, performing bank and account reconciliations, assisting with month‑end close tasks, and supporting the preparation and review of financial records and reports
  • Support the transition of financial functions into the Diocese’s shared services model by helping onboard new entities and establishing consistent processes and procedures
  • Assist with budgeting and financial planning processes, including but not limited to gathering data, preparing supporting schedules, and monitoring performance against budget
  • Support financial reviews, internal audits, and external audit processes by preparing documentation, reconciling balances, and assisting with requests from auditors and internal stakeholders
  • Prepare financial reports and supporting materials for leadership, including parish finance councils, and assist in communicating financial results and insights to non‑financial stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Chancery Finance Office team members and parish staff to resolve discrepancies, improve workflows, and implement best practices across multiple locations
  • Participate in structured training and cross‑functional development across accounting, financial planning, and audit disciplines, with the goal of gradually taking on increased responsibility, including direct support of individual parishes or entities
  • Provide support for special projects and evolving Chancery Finance Office initiatives as the Diocese continues to expand and refine its shared services model
  • Assist with ad hoc financial projects, and other responsibilities as needed
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Foundational understanding of accounting principles and/or GAAP
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with QuickBooks is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated awareness of and support for the Catholic Church and its mission and traditions
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Eagerness to learn through hands‑on experience, training, and collaboration with team members across multiple functional areas
  • Flexible and able to respond to changes in the responsibilities and in the work environment
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or management
  • Position is primarily in‑office, with occasional travel to other diocesan locations as required
