Ashland University Bookstore is seeking a Financial Aid Counselor to support undergraduate and graduate students with needs analysis, packaging, and federal/state aid rules.

This is a full-time, on-site role with standard weekday hours and opportunities for collaboration with university staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in a field related to financial aid or counseling.
• Experience in student financial aid or related counseling preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
• Strong knowledge of federal/state/institutional financial aid rules and regulations.
• Excellent communication, judgment, analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Effective organization, planning and deadline management.
• Ability to handle confidential information (FERPA) and prioritize a significant caseload.
• Authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not provided.

Responsibilities

• Conduct needs analyses to determine eligibility for financial aid.
• Determine aid types and amounts during packaging in compliance with regulations.
• Counsel students and parents on aid options, personal finances, and money management.
• Resolve conflicts, verify information, and address over-awards or special circumstances.
• Apply professional judgement to adjust eligibility when appropriate.
• Review verifications for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
• Complete Title IV Funds calculations and maintain aid-related materials.
• Assist in developing policies, attending trainings, and providing education materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
