Financial Aid Advisor – Hampton, VA 23668

Location: 200 William R. Harvey Way, Hampton, VA 23668

The chief objective of this position is to provide financial aid counseling to students and parents on the various federal, institutional, and state aid programs. This includes conducting high school workshops; performing verification, enforcing satisfactory academic progress; packaging and awarding student aid; and responding to parent and student inquiries regarding all aspects of the financial aid process.

Examples of Duties

• Process financial aid awards in accordance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
• Interpret student aid legislation.
• Advise parents and students in person and/or by telephone.
• Assist parents and students with the completion of required forms.
• Maintain current knowledge of all financial aid programs and act as a resource person for support staff.
• Work with individual student files to perform verification and recalculation of financial need when necessary.
• Identify errors on ISIRs/SARs and assist the student in the correction process.
• Monitor students’ satisfactory academic progress.
• Ensure student awards do not exceed the total cost of attendance.
• Assist with entrance and exit counseling sessions.
• Assist students and parents with questions regarding completing the steps required to obtain education loans, both federal and private.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

• High School graduate; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates who have previously worked in a Financial Aid Office and/or higher education finance.
