Job description

We generate the clients. You advise them.

No cold calling. No seminars. No prospecting quotas. No product sales. No book you have to bring with you.

Covenant Wealth Advisors invests heavily in marketing and referral relationships, and qualified families with $1 million to $10 million+ in investable assets are booked directly onto your calendar. Your job is to meet them, decide together whether we're a fit, and then be their advisor for the next twenty years.

If you're a CFP® who is genuinely good at planning and tired of being measured on how much business you drag in the door, this is the seat.

About us

Founded in 2010. Fee-only, fiduciary, independent. $1.05 billion in assets under management as of June 30, 2026, serving 575+ client households across Virginia and the United States from offices in Richmond (primary), Reston, and Williamsburg.

We do one thing: help people age 50 and older plan for and enjoy retirement, by integrating retirement income planning, tax planning, and investment management into a single coordinated strategy. Seven CFP® professionals, a CPA on staff, associate advisors, and a dedicated operations team.

What you'll do
  • Serve as the primary advisor for your client families - retirement income planning, Roth conversion analysis, Social Security timing, tax optimization, investment management, and estate coordination.
  • Meet with pre-qualified prospects who come to us through our marketing and referral network, learn what they're trying to accomplish, and determine whether we're right for each other.
  • Partner with our in-house CPA, EA, associate advisors, and paraplanners on complex situations - you are not doing this alone, and you are not building plans at 9 p.m.
  • Contribute to how we do the work: better processes, better client experience, better outcomes.
Your tools:

MoneyGuide Pro, Holistiplan, Tamarac, Wealthbox, YCharts, Schwab and Fidelity custody.

What year one looks like - and year five

In year one, roughly half your time is meeting new families and half is serving the ones who join. As your book fills, that flips. At full capacity - approximately 100 to 115 households, supported by associate advisors and a service team - the large majority of your week is spent with clients you know well, with a steady but smaller flow of new introductions.

We say this plainly because most firms don't: you will know exactly what your capacity is, and we staff to it.

What we're looking for
Required
  • 3+ years advising affluent clients on comprehensive financial planning and investment management.
  • Deep working knowledge of retirement income planning for households with $1 million to $10 million+ invested.
  • The ability to explain an evidence-based investment approach - and defend it in a bear market.
  • You listen before you advise. You write clearly. You build trust through competence, not charisma.
Helpful, not required
  • CPA, ChFC, EA, or CFA.
  • Prior experience at a fee-only RIA.
  • Experience with MoneyGuide Pro, Holistiplan, Tamarac, or Wealthbox.
Compensation
  • Base salary: $110,000 to $167,500, depending on experience and the amount of revenue you may currently manage.
  • Bonus: Quarterly revenue-sharing bonus tied to firm growth, generally 10% to 15% of base salary.
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match.
  • Future qualification for our unit appreciation plan where you benefit from the growth of the company
  • Health, Vision, and Dental insurance
  • Paid parental and maternity leave; dependent care FSA.
  • Generous PTO.
  • Professional development budget and ongoing training.
  • Charitable gift matching.
  • Hybrid schedule: four days in the Richmond office, one day remote.
Who does well here
  • People who find the planning work itself interesting - the tax return, the withdrawal sequence, the survivor scenario.
  • People who want a full career of client relationships, not a full career of business development.
  • People who take real time off. We mean it; our second core value is "Enjoy Life and Family".

Who doesn't: advisors whose primary motivation is maximizing personal production, and advisors who want to sell products. Neither is available here.

Our values

Integrity, Enjoy Life and Family, Listen, Pursue Excellence, Gratitude, Make It Happen

Hiring process
  • 30-minute introductory call and short assessment.
  • Conversation with our CEO and Lead Advisor(s).
  • Half-day onsite in Richmond, including time with the team you'd work with.
  • References and offer.

We move quickly. Most candidates go from first call to decision in under three weeks.
