Job summary

Year Up United is seeking motivated interns for our Financial Advisor Training Program in Newark, New Jersey. You will assist senior advisors with budgeting, investing, and financial planning tasks while gaining hands-on exposure to client service and research in a mission-driven workplace.

You will receive coaching and technical training, participate in classroom learning, and develop professional skills in a supportive environment designed to advance economic mobility for diverse young adults

Qualifications

• Basic financial literacy including budgeting, saving, and introductory investing concepts.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) and basic data entry.
• Familiarity with customer service principles and professional communication.
• Introductory knowledge of banking, insurance, and investment products.
• Written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain financial concepts clearly.
• Basic quantitative and analytical skills; time management and organization.
• Ability to learn financial software or CRM tools; professionalism in client-facing settings.

Responsibilities

• Support financial advisors with basic client intake and information gathering.
• Prepare simple financial summaries, budgets, and savings plans under supervision.
• Maintain accurate client records using financial software and spreadsheets.
• Learn foundational concepts in banking, insurance, and investments in real-world scenarios.
• Explain basic financial products and services clearly to clients or mock clients.
• Participate in classroom-based learning on finance, professionalism, and workplace communication.
• Collaborate with peers, staff, and employer partners on projects and internship tasks.
• Follow compliance, confidentiality, and ethical guidelines introduced by training staff.
