Financial Accountant – 2–3 Month Temporary Assignment

Location: Madison, Wisconsin (Onsite)
Job Type: Full-Time | Temporary, 2–3 Month Assignment
Compensation: $43–$53/hour, commensurate with experience.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Financial Accountant for a 2–3 month temporary assignment with a growing real estate development and investment organization in Madison, Wisconsin.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who can step into a fast-paced environment and provide immediate support across corporate accounting, financial reporting, and real estate development accounting. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing day-to-day accounting responsibilities independently while working closely with company leadership.

This position is onsite in Madison and is expected to last approximately 2–3 months.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Financial Accountant will provide temporary accounting and financial support for multiple real estate development and investment entities.

The role will have exposure to:

  • Corporate accounting and general ledger management
  • Financial reporting
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Real estate and development accounting
  • Construction and project cost tracking
  • Budgeting and cash flow management
  • Banking and lender reporting
  • Month‑end and year‑end close activities
Key Responsibilities

Corporate Accounting

  • Prepare monthly and periodic financial statements
  • Maintain the general ledger and complete account reconciliations
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Assist with payroll processing
  • Support monthly and year‑end financial close activities
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
  • Coordinate owner and investor distributions
  • Prepare financial reports for company leadership
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies

Real Estate & Development Accounting

  • Maintain accounting records for multiple development and investment entities
  • Track project costs, construction draws, and development budgets
  • Assist with project financial models and cash flow projections
  • Support lender reporting and debt financing activities
  • Review financial statements prepared by third‑party property management firms
  • Assist with project capitalization and transitions from development to operations
  • Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation for auditors and tax professionals
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Three or more years of accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and quickly become acclimated to existing processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience with commercial real estate, construction, property management, or development accounting
  • Experience with QuickBooks, AppFolio, Yardi, Sage, Entrata, or similar accounting/ERP platforms
  • Experience preparing financial models, budgets, or cash flow projections
  • Previous experience stepping into interim, temporary, or project‑based accounting assignments

You’ll work closely with leadership and gain exposure to a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, mixed‑use, and investment properties throughout Wisconsin.
