Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Director of Finance for the Michigan Business Unit to lead finance and accounting activities and provide strategic financial support across the Michigan Chapter. This role collaborates with the Midwest Division and the BOT to ensure fiscal health, donor alignment, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include managing budgeting, grants, contracts, and multi-year funding; ensuring GAAP compliance; and guiding staff and operations through funds administration

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
• Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
• Experience with GAAP.
• Technical experience with grants award accounting issues.
• Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Experience with Federal Uniform Guidance and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate tactics to meet program priorities and oversee day-to-day financial tasks.
• Communicate financial information to BU leaders and BOT to enable informed decisions.
• Assist in budgeting, gift allocation, and tracking fundraising versus budget; ensure donor intent and financial health of the BU.
• Manage private funding lifecycles with grants management specialists and collaborate on budgets and reports.
• Ensure compliance with TNC policies, legal/regulatory frameworks, and financial standards.
• Travel and work long or flexible hours as needed.
