Job summary

The Nature Conservancy seeks a Director of Finance for the Michigan Business Unit to lead all finance and accounting activities, provide strategic and tactical support, and ensure donors' intents are met. The role collaborates with the Midwest Division and reports to the Director of Operations.

Key responsibilities include budgeting, grants management, and financial reporting, with emphasis on compliance, controls, and long-term sustainability. Hybrid or on-site work in MI may be considered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration with related experience (5+ years).
• Experience with accounting principles, GAAP and regulations.
• Experience with grants accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Familiarity with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance and local regulations.
• Knowledge of financial controls and donor intent.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate the Michigan BU budget process and meet strategic priorities.
• Advise leadership and Board on financial health and sustainability.
• Oversee grants management, budgets and reports for funders.
• Ensure compliance with policy, GAAP and legal requirements across the BU.
• Collaborate with Midwest Division finance and development teams on complex agreements.
