Opportunity

We’re looking for a detail-oriented finance specialist with a collaborative approach who comfortably meets deadlines. This recruitment is a Limited Duration Appointment (LDA) that is expected to end June 30, 2027, but may end at any time. This recruitment may be used to fill future Regular and Limited Duration Appointment positions.


Overview

The Department of County Assets (DCA) manages technology, facilities, vehicles, and records for Multnomah County. We provide countywide services and support behind the scenes to ensure county programs can serve residents effectively. In short, we serve the people who serve the people. This Finance Specialist 2 LDA position completes a high-volume of work (250 - 400 transactions per month). This position supports Fleet Services and spends a considerable amount of time processing Fleet accounts payable and data entry of motor pool, mileage, and fuel information into a custom database. The work assigned to this position is deadline driven. The successful candidate must be comfortable with multi‑tasking while completing assigned duties.


Responsibilities (General Duties)


  • Process supplier invoices in Workday software system for purchase orders, contract payments, and direct‑pay payments.

  • Verify accuracy of items and amounts invoiced; verify coding to correct budget accounts and general ledger accounts; obtain approvals; collect and match relevant backup material justifying purchases to invoices.

  • Provide accurate and timely payment processing in compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures.

  • Provide support and backup for other DCA and Non‑Departmental programs and Finance Functions.

  • Reconciliation of transactions to ensure correct posting.

  • Contact vendors and County staff to obtain packing lists, invoices, approvals, and missing backup documentation.

  • Review open purchase orders and determine status.

  • Reconcile monthly vendor statements by ensuring invoices are properly accounted for in Workday.

  • Background check and reference checks: All finalists must pass a thorough criminal records check and reference check.


Location & Schedule

Location: 501 SE Hawthorne Blvd., Portland, Oregon


Hybrid Telework: This is a hybrid telework position, requiring three days in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and two days working remotely from home (Monday and Friday). Please note that this hybrid designation and schedule may be subject to change in the future. Flexibility to work additional days on‑site during the initial training and onboarding phase, as well as the willingness and ability to travel between designated office locations.


Schedule: Standard work hours would be 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with opportunities for flexible schedules such as 9/80s.


All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington. We are unable to sponsor work visas, including H-1B, F-1 OPT, or STEM OPT.


Type of Position

This hourly union‑represented position is eligible for overtime (Local 88).

Minimum Qualifications / Transferable Skills


  • Bachelor's degree or in lieu of a degree we will consider equivalent years of experience.

  • Two (2) years of experience that demonstrates the duties of the position (Equivalency 6 years of qualifying training and/or experience).


Preferred Qualifications / Transferable Skills


  • Governmental accounting and reporting.

  • Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).

  • Workday (or other ERP) enterprise system experience.

  • Financial reconciliation experience.

  • Intermediate or advanced Microsoft Access and Excel skills.
