Job summary

City of Nacogdoches is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Finance Department. The role focuses on advanced accounting operations, financial reporting, budget monitoring, and capital asset tracking to ensure prudent management of public funds.

Responsibilities include maintaining the general ledger, asset depreciation, CIP tracking, variance analysis, and coordinating audits with external bodies. A bachelor’s degree and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• At least two years of accounting experience (governmental and grant experience preferred).
• Knowledge of GAAP and GASB standards; familiarity with public finance laws.

In this role, you will perform advanced accounting operations, oversee financial reporting, monitor budgets and manage capital asset and project accounting to ensure exceptional stewardship of public funds.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger accounts, perform reconciliations and review financial transactions.
• Manage capital asset accounting, depreciation and Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) tracking.
• Monitor budget activity, prepare variance reports and assist with annual ACFR preparation.
• Coordinate audit activities and serve as a liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related field.
• At least two (2) years of accounting experience (governmental and grant experience preferred).
• Knowledge of GAAP, GASB standards and public finance laws.
• Public Funds Investment Act Certification required within one (1) year of employment.
• Valid Texas driver's license.
