ABOUT BIG WATT DIGITAL
Big Watt Digital is a mission-critical infrastructure platform developing and operating next-generation, high-density data center campuses built for the demands of AI and advanced digital workloads. Our model brings together large-scale power, digital infrastructure, development execution, and operational discipline to deliver speed, certainty, and scalability.
WHY BIG WATT DIGITAL
We are building at the intersection of energy, data centers, AI infrastructure, and large-scale development—where execution matters.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Big Watt Digital is building the infrastructure required to power the next generation of AI—combining behind-the-meter power generation with large-scale data center development.
Energy is central to our business model. The economics of natural gas, generation technology, equipment procurement, operating efficiency and power availability directly influence where we invest, how we structure projects and the returns we can deliver.
We are looking for a Finance Manager, Energy & Power who can operate at the intersection of engineering, energy markets and investment economics. This is not a traditional budgeting and reporting role. You will help determine how we evaluate power generation investments, translate technical choices into financial outcomes and allocate capital across an expanding portfolio of infrastructure projects.
You will work directly with leaders across Energy, Engineering, Development, Construction, Treasury and Finance, bringing analytical rigor and commercial judgment to decisions involving hundreds of millions of dollars in capital.
The opportunity is to build the financial foundation of a rapidly scaling energy business while influencing decisions that will shape its long-term economics.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Shape Power Generation Economics
- Own financial models across power development, construction, commissioning and operations.
- Evaluate generation technologies, equipment configurations, fuel arrangements and operating strategies.
- Translate engineering assumptions into capital cost per MW, cost per MWh, efficiency, availability, IRR and yield on cost.
- Connect generation economics to data center pricing, project returns and enterprise profitability.
Drive Investment and Capital Allocation
- Build investment cases for generation assets, equipment procurement and capacity expansion.
- Evaluate trade-offs across capital cost, delivery timelines, reliability, efficiency and lifecycle economics.
- Challenge technical and commercial assumptions, quantify downside risks and recommend alternatives.
- Support executive investment decisions with clear financial analysis and actionable recommendations.
Navigate Energy Market Risk
- Model exposure to natural gas prices, fuel transportation, power markets and regulatory developments.
- Evaluate fuel contracts, pricing mechanisms and risk mitigation strategies alongside Treasury and Commercial teams.
- Stress-test project returns against equipment performance, construction delays, fuel volatility and operating disruptions.
- Translate market uncertainty into investment and operating decisions.
Build the Financial Operating Model
- Own Energy & Power planning, forecasting, performance management and variance analysis.
- Integrate development milestones, procurement, construction spending, commercial operation dates (COD) and operating performance into financial forecasts.
- Establish KPIs linking technical performance to economics, including cost per MW, heat rates, availability and cost per MWh.
- Partner with Accounting and Treasury to align project forecasts, capital commitments, liquidity and financial reporting.
- Build scalable financial models, reporting and automation to support portfolio growth.
Operate as a Strategic Business Partner
- Partner directly with Energy, Engineering, Development and Construction leaders on major technical and commercial decisions.
- Bring Finance upstream into equipment selection, project design, procurement and contracting.
- Challenge assumptions constructively and communicate complex energy economics clearly to senior leadership.
- Connect detailed project analysis to capital allocation, customer economics and enterprise value.
Build for Scale
- Establish financial frameworks, processes and operating mechanisms where none exist.
- Balance analytical rigor with startup speed, prioritizing decisions over unnecessary complexity.
- Automate recurring analysis and reporting to increase Finance's strategic leverage.
- Take ownership of ambiguous, cross-functional problems and drive them to resolution.
THE PERSON WHO WILL THRIVE HERE
- 5 years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A, project finance, infrastructure investing, energy finance or a related field. Excel skills must be rated 8/10 and AI usage for analysis and modeling 8/10.
- Strong financial modeling and investment analysis capabilities, including project-level cash flows, capital allocation, scenario analysis and valuation.
- Experience in power generation, utilities, energy infrastructure, data centers or another capital-intensive industry.
- Able to engage credibly with engineers and technical leaders, challenge assumptions and translate complex systems into financial decisions.
- Combines the analytical rigor of a sophisticated infrastructure investor with the ownership, adaptability and execution speed of a startup operator.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Engineering, Economics or a related discipline; an MBA or advanced technical degree is a plus.
You understand that the value of Finance is not model precision alone. It is the judgment to determine where capital should go, which risks are worth taking and how technical decisions translate into long-term economic value.
At Big Watt Digital, Finance belongs upstream of the investment decision—not downstream of the transaction.
