Job description

Downstream is a marketplace platform transforming the waste and construction industries from the ground up. We're on a mission to bring simplicity, transparency, and sustainability to two of the most essential — but often overlooked — sectors of our economy.

We make it easy for contractors, builders, and businesses to find and book critical services like dumpster rentals, hauling, site services, and equipment — all in a few clicks. No endless calls, no confusing pricing, no waiting around. Our platform connects customers with vetted, reliable providers so they can get what they need, when they need it.

We're not just about convenience — we're about impact. By streamlining logistics and digitizing the supply chain, we're helping reduce waste, cut emissions, and build a cleaner, more sustainable future. Let's build better, together.

About the role

We're looking for a Finance Manager to own the day-to-day financial operations of Downstream's rapidly growing marketplace, with direct responsibility for our Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.

You'll manage and develop the AR and AP Associates while strengthening financial processes, controls, reporting, cash visibility, and month-end close. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable leading a team and diving into the details when needed.

This is a remote role.

What you'll do
  • Manage and develop the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Associates
  • Own end-to-end AR and AP, including billing, collections, supplier payments, and reconciliations
  • Oversee customer aging and collections, escalating risks and improving Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)
  • Review supplier invoices, Purchase Cost Variances (PCVs), payment batches, and exceptions
  • Lead key components of month-end close, including reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, and supporting schedules
  • Maintain strong financial controls across billing, payments, credits, refunds, and transaction workflows
  • Partner with Operations and Sales to resolve complex customer and supplier billing disputes
  • Develop and monitor KPIs across AR, AP, cash collections, supplier payments, aging, and transaction accuracy
  • Identify opportunities to automate and scale finance processes
  • Support cash forecasting, working capital management, annual audits, tax preparation, and ad hoc financial analysis
Role specifics
  • Direct reports: Accounts Receivable Associate and Accounts Payable Associate
  • Core ownership: AR, AP, month-end close, controls, reconciliations, and working capital visibility
  • Key metrics: DSO, aging, cash collections, supplier payment accuracy, and transaction accuracy
  • Operating environment: high-growth B2B marketplace with increasing transaction complexity
Who you are
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including AR and AP
  • 1+ years of experience managing or developing accounting or finance team members preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, month-end close, reconciliations, accruals, and financial controls
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting, billing, or payment platforms
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving skills
  • Experience in a high-growth startup, marketplace, construction, logistics, equipment rental, or technology environment preferred
Compensation

$90,000–$100,000 per year.
