Job description

Building the future of sensing is extremely hard work. We move fast, tackle difficult technical problems, and expect a lot from one another. We look for self-starters who take ownership and deliver. If you are looking for a traditional 9-to-5, this is not the place for you.

But if you want to build advanced sensing systems in Austin, strengthen U.S. military capabilities, protect American warfighters, support public safety and aerial firefighting, and work alongside operators in the field, we want to hear from you.

Why Austin Sensing Co.

We design and manufacture vertically integrated sensing systems for defense, public safety, and critical infrastructure. Our products are deployed in demanding environments where failure is not an option. Built in America and headquartered in Austin, Texas.

About Austin Sensing Company

Austin Sensing Company builds radar, acoustic, and RF sensors for defense, public safety, critical infrastructure, and autonomous systems. We design and manufacture our hardware in Austin, Texas, with a focus on making high-performance sensing reliable, affordable, and widely available.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Finance Lead to own financial planning and day-to-day finance as we grow our team and manufacturing operations. You’ll work directly with the founders on budgets, projections, capital allocation, fundraising, and the financial decisions behind hiring and production.

We’re looking for someone with a background in investment banking, private equity, or a similar analytical role, along with experience operating inside a business. You should be able to build detailed financial models, understand what’s driving the numbers, and turn that work into clear decisions. You’ll also handle the daily work, from managing cash to coordinating with our accountants.

What You’ll Do

Own the company’s financial models, budgets, projections, and cash forecasts. Keep them current as hiring, sales, and production plans change.

Build revenue, expense, headcount, and capital expenditure projections. Model different growth scenarios and their impact on cash needs and runway.

Track spending, burn, and runway. Compare actual results against projections, explain the differences, and recommend adjustments.

Work with engineering, manufacturing, and sales to understand product costs, margins, inventory needs, and customer economics.

Evaluate hiring plans, equipment purchases, financing options, and other uses of capital.

Manage banking relationships, cash balances, and equipment financing.

Coordinate with external accountants on monthly close, financial statements, payroll, and tax filings. Make sure the numbers are accurate and delivered on time.

Build financial reporting for the founders, board, and investors.

Support fundraising with financial models, projections, investor materials, and an organized data room.

Establish practical processes for budgeting, purchasing approvals, expense management, and collections.

What You’ll Bring

7+ years of relevant finance experience, including investment banking, private equity, or a comparable analytical role, along with experience operating inside a business.

Experience owning finance responsibilities inside a company, with direct accountability for budgets, cash, or operating performance.

Strong experience building financial models, operating projections, and scenario analyses, with a clear understanding of how the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement connect.

Sound judgment about spending, financing, and the tradeoffs involved in growing a business.

The ability to explain financial information clearly to people outside finance.

Comfort working with incomplete information and updating your assumptions as the business changes.

Attention to detail and a willingness to handle both strategic decisions and daily finance work.

Preferred Experience

Experience at a hardware, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or industrial technology company.

Familiarity with inventory accounting, working capital, capital expenditures, and product costing.

Experience building a finance function at an early-stage company.
